Sherrill Legion topped by New Hartford
SHERRILL, N.Y. » After spotting New Hartford Post three runs in the bottom of the first frame, Post 230 rallied to tie Tuesday’s American Legion contest at 3-all in the bottom of the third.
It was the closest the contest would be the rest of the way however, as the New Hartford bats plated multiple runs in three of the final four innings to take a 12-6 victory on Tuesday at Noyes Park.
Joe Murray paced New Hartford with a homer, a double and five RBI on 2-for-5 hitting.
Dan Owen earned the win on the mound for New Hartford, scattering nine hits and walking four while yielding six runs (five earned).
“We had a few mistakes. After the last few years at the top, we’re going to see everyone’s best pitcher,” Post 230 coach Barry Van-Dreason said. “He’s going to Saint Rose; he’s a good pitcher.”
Zach Nell had a strong night at the plate for Post 230 in the loss, going 2-for- 4 with a trio of RBI and a double. Tyler Rotach added a 2-for-4 performance with an RBI of his own. Alex Kippdrew three walks.
Brothers Horodnick pitched six of seven innings for Post 230. Jacob started for Sherrill on the hill, tossing three innings of three-run ball, while striking out three. TJ entered in the top of the fourth, allowing five runs (four earned) across three innings of work while striking out three. Lukas Albro came on in relief of TJ in the seventh stanza.
