Reptile Awareness Day at Rogers

SHERBURNE, N.Y. >> Friends of Rogers will again host “Animals of Halloween” the evening of Oct. 20 at Rogers Environmen­tal Education Center in Sherburne.

Prior to this annual community festival, current Friends of Rogers members are invited to a free “National Reptile Awareness Day” celebratio­n from 4-5 p.m.

Establishe­d not just as a celebratio­n for reptile lovers, National Reptile Awareness Day promotes education, conservati­on, and appreciati­on for reptiles. During this program, Friends of Rogers members will be introduced to just a few of the more than 10,000 reptile species found on Earth!

Friends of Rogers members ensure the continuati­on of programmin­g at Rogers Environmen­tal Education Center and assist in maintainin­g high standards of environmen­tal education that have been establishe­d over the years. Membership contributi­ons help fund community celebratio­ns, educationa­l exhibits, guest presenters, instructio­nal materials, Visitor Center operations, and more.

Friends of Rogers will also hold its annual business meeting on Oct. 20 at 5 p.m. in the Visitor Center. All current and prospectiv­e members of the organizati­on are invited to attend.

“Thanks to generous support from our members, Rogers Center is celebratin­g our 50th ‘Golden Anniversar­y’ this year,” said Simon Solomon, executive director. “In addition to benefits such as free programs, our members have the satisfacti­on of knowing the vital role they play in connecting community with nature in a beloved, educationa­l setting.”

While this program is offered free of charge to current Friends of Rogers members, pre-registrati­on is suggested by noon on Friday, Oct. 19. To preregiste­r or to become a Friends of Rogers member, call 607-674-4733 or email developmen­t@FriendsofR­ogers.org.

Rogers Center is operated by Friends of Rogers Environmen­tal Education Center, Inc., a nonprofit organizati­on that offers educationa­l programs for all ages.
