Local schools prepare for playoffs

The Section III Class B girls soccer bracket features a second- round matchup between two Dispatch- area teams.

VVS (10- 6, 7- 5) Shawn Lynch’s Red Devils secured the No. 9 seed following a regular season campaign in which they finished second in the Tri-Valley League Pioneer division, trailing only No. 5 seed Central Valley Academy. VVS will travel to Cazenovia (9- 6-1, 8-2-1) to take on Kaleen Sessler’s Laker squad that also placed second in its division, the OHSL Liberty National.

Chittenang­o ( 11- 4- 1, 9- 2- 1) earned the No. 7 seed, follow- ing a second place finish in the OHSL Liberty American division, will host No. 10 Skaneatele­s. Thanks to a first round bye, Chittenang­o takes the pitch on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 6:00 p.m.

Oneida (6- 8-1, 5- 5) joins its TVL rival in the Class B playoffs with a No. 15 seed. Oneida will host No. 18 Phoenix, a team Scott Fallon’s side took down 6-1 during regular season play, for a 3:00 p. m. start on Tuesday, Oct. 16.

Elswhere in Class B, Canastota (5-7- 3, 1- 6-1) secured a playoff berth following a fourth place finish in the CSC Divison I. Robert Mengucci’s Raiders were the last team in with the No. 19 seed, and will travel to take on No. 14 Adirondack at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 3:00 p.m.

Morrisvill­e-Eaton (6- 8-1, 3-7) qualified for the Class C playoffs as the No. 15 seed, making the Warriors the last team in the bracket to secure a first round bye. M-E, after finishing at the bottom of a stacked CSC-III, will travel to the No. 2 seed Little Falls for a second round contest on Thursday at 3 p.m.

No. 10 seed Madison (9- 6, 9- 3) drew No. 7 Copenhagen in the Class D bracket. The two teams will meet at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Falling to 6- 6 following a late September loss to Cincinnatu­s, Herb Bingel’s Madison team ran off four straight wins to close the season in second place in the CCL.
