Hawks and raptors
New York Mills — At the Nov. 18 meeting of the Kirkland Bird Club, Professor Chris Briggs will give a program on Swainson’s Hawks and Raptor Ecology. Before becoming an adjunct professor of biology at Hamilton College, Briggs was the research director at the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory. This program will feature Briggs’ work with Swainson’s Hawks and the effects pesticides have had on their population. He will also discuss how some widely used pesticides are affecting raptors in general. This program is free and open to the public. The program/meeting will take place on Sunday, Nov. 18, at 2:30 p.m. at the New York Mills Community Room, 320 Main St., New York Mills.
Clinton Historical Society open house
Clinton — The Clinton Historical Society, at 1 Fountain St., Clinton, will host an open house from 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Fri- day, Nov. 23, during the annual Clinton Shoppers Stroll. This 19th century celebration will feature homemade Victorian Christmas treats and a Christmas tree decorated in handcrafted Victorian ornaments and sparkling lights. Warm winter punch, vintage holiday music and gift shop items will also be available. Children will receive a free gift and from 4-7 p.m. Father Christmas will attend.
Christmas at the Corner
Clinton — Christmas at the Corner will be held on Friday, Nov. 23, at Stone Presbyterian Church, 8 S. Park Row, Clinton, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Seven C’s Café, the Fair Trade Shop and the Bake Shop will be open all day. The day will include “A Christmas Story” with Tim Coombs and “The Polar Express” with Scott Leonard at 2 p.m.; “Christmas Story” with the Stone Storytellers at 2:30 p.m.; a carol singalong with Rob Kolb at 3 p.m.; and the St. Mary’s Church Choir holiday concert at 4:30 p.m. For more information, call 315-853-2933.
Oneida Castle yard clean up
Oneida Castle — The village of Oneida Castle will hold its annual fall yard clean up Nov. 26-30. Residents must place all yard debris at curbside and may include limbs up to two inches in diameter. All leaves must be bagged for pick up.
Aging mastery program
Sherrill — The Parkway Center will offer free classes at the Sherrill Community Activity Center on Tuesdays from 1- 3 p.m. through Nov. 27. These classes are an opportunity to meet new friends and learn skills that will lead to improved health, stronger financial security, and overall well-being. Sherrill — The Sherrill Merchant’s Association will hold its annual holiday tree lighting ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. in Reilly-Mumford Park. Refreshments will be provided.
