Moody McCarthy comes to Kallet
ONEIDA, N.Y. >> The Oneida Performing Arts and the Kallet Civic Center are teaming up to bring a night of standup to Central New York.
Syracuse-born Moody McCarthy will offer two performance on Saturday, Sept. 18, one at 6 p.m. and the other at 8:30 p.m.
McCarthy ( born Matthew Patrick McCarthy) lives in New York with his wife, two daughters, and a Betta fish they rescued from a pet store. McCarthy was raised in Syracuse, the sixth of seven children, in a rambunctious household. He graduated from Corcoran High School in 1984, before attending New York University.
McCarthy began his comedy career in Syracuse in 1992. Shortly thereafter he was hired by Syracuse’s No. 1 radio show to cover sports and write jokes, two of his loves. From 1994- 95, he covered sports on WYYY’s (“Y94FM”) morning show. After six years of performing regionally, Mc- Carthy decided his apartment was too big and moved to New York City. He is still a regular guest on WKTV (“TK99”) with “Gomez & Dave in the Morn-
ing.”
McCarthy has made numerous TV appearances, highlighted by performances on Conan, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and two sets on The Late Show with David Letterman. His first network appearance was on the re-vamped Star Search in 2003. McCarthy was a semi-finalist on Last Comic Standing in 2006. In 2014, he advanced to the second round of America’s Got Talent but was not shown performing in the telecast. This millennium has been good to McCar- thy: he has been featured on Gotham Comedy Live. He’s a regular at some of the best clubs in the land and can be heard on SiriusXM. His debut CD, “The Night it Went Well,” has received play on satellite radio.
Moody’s material is described as original but universal, and smart without being trite. From country clubs to pubs to corporate outings, he will brighten any event.
