Ro­bot­ics team com­petes in tour­ney

CHITTENANGO, N.Y. >> The Robo Bears from Chittenango High School kicked offthe 2019VexRobotics Sea­son on Satur­day, Dec. 1, host­ing the open­ing tour­na­ment at the Chittenango Mid­dle School. Thirty-four teams from all over Cen­tral New York ar­rived early in the morn­ing ready to battle through both qual­i­fy­ing and elim­i­na­tion rounds.

The Robo Bears be­gan prep­ping over the sum­mer for this year’s com­pe­ti­tion, which re­quires teams of stu­dents to de­sign, build, pro­gram and test robots with this year’s game in­volv­ing driv­ing, flip­ping, shoot­ing and head-to-head bat­tles for spots on an el­e­vated plat­form.

Se­niors Dy­lan Price, Er­cilio Cer­mi­naro, Devlin Cameron, Caleb Pren­oveau and Ben Kingsley led the Bear Bots plac­ing third in qual­i­fy­ing and ad­vanced into the sec­ond slot for elim­i­na­tion rounds be­fore go­ing down in the quar­ter­fi­nals.

Af­ter a strong show­ing at the open­ing tour­ney, the 7157 bots will con­tinue re­design and re­build for the next tour­na­ment in early Jan­uary.
