Nominations for grand marshal now accepted
UTICA, N.Y. >> TheGreatAmerican Irish Festival board is now accepting applications for grand marshal for its 2019 St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
All nominations must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. on Jan. 6 to be eligible for consideration. Nominations must include a brief background of the nominee, details of his or her contribution to Irish causes in the Mohawk Valley, and reasons why the nominee would be the proper choice for grand marshal.
The grand marshal, elected by the Great American Irish Festival Board, will lead the 2019 Utica St. Patrick’s Day on March 16. The Parade is presented by the Great American Irish Festival with the cooperation of the city of Utica.
The grand marshal will also serve as the honorary chairperson of the 2019 Great American Irish Festival, held July 26-28 at the Herkimer County Fairgrounds.
The grand marshal will be announced at the annual Hooley event on Friday, Jan. 25, the halfway point to the Great American Irish Festival. The Hooley will be held this year at the Saranac Brewery, Utica, N.Y., from 6-10 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for $15 at the door the night of the event.
