Nom­i­na­tions for grand mar­shal now ac­cepted

UTICA, N.Y. >> TheGreatAmer­i­can Ir­ish Fes­ti­val board is now ac­cept­ing ap­pli­ca­tions for grand mar­shal for its 2019 St. Pa­trick’s Day Pa­rade.

All nom­i­na­tions must be sub­mit­ted no later than 5 p.m. on Jan. 6 to be el­i­gi­ble for con­sid­er­a­tion. Nom­i­na­tions must in­clude a brief back­ground of the nom­i­nee, de­tails of his or her con­tri­bu­tion to Ir­ish causes in the Mo­hawk Val­ley, and rea­sons why the nom­i­nee would be the proper choice for grand mar­shal.

The grand mar­shal, elected by the Great Amer­i­can Ir­ish Fes­ti­val Board, will lead the 2019 Utica St. Pa­trick’s Day on March 16. The Pa­rade is pre­sented by the Great Amer­i­can Ir­ish Fes­ti­val with the co­op­er­a­tion of the city of Utica.

The grand mar­shal will also serve as the hon­orary chair­per­son of the 2019 Great Amer­i­can Ir­ish Fes­ti­val, held July 26-28 at the Herkimer County Fair­grounds.

The grand mar­shal will be an­nounced at the an­nual Hoo­ley event on Fri­day, Jan. 25, the half­way point to the Great Amer­i­can Ir­ish Fes­ti­val. The Hoo­ley will be held this year at the Saranac Brew­ery, Utica, N.Y., from 6-10 p.m. Tick­ets can be pur­chased for $15 at the door the night of the event.
