Oneida Li­brary board nom­i­na­tions open

The Oneida Pub­lic Li­brary wel­comes el­i­gi­ble adults to ap­ply for seats on the OPL’s board of trustees.

ONEIDA, N.Y. >> The Oneida Pub­lic Li­brary Board of Trustees in­vites adult res­i­dents of the OPL Spe­cial Leg­is­la­ture Li­brary Dis­trict who are in­ter­ested in run­ning as can­di­dates for the board seat open­ing up this July 1 to pick up voter pe­ti­tion forms this month at the li­brary, 220 Broad St., Oneida.

To get on the bal­lot for the trustee elec­tion, which will be held Tues­day, March 5, each can­di­date must col­lect a min­i­mum of 25 sig­na­tures of reg­is­tered vot­ers who re­side in the OPL Spe­cial Li­brary Dis­trict. The Spe­cial Dis­trict is co­ex­ten­sive with the Oneida City School Dis­trict. It in­cludes Durhamville, Oneida City, Oneida Cas­tle, Wampsville and por­tions of Syl­van Beach and the towns of Lenox, Lin­coln, Ver­non, Verona and Vi­enna. Com­pleted and no­ta­rized pe­ti­tions must be re­turned to the li­brary by 5:00 p.m. Fri­day, Feb. 1.

A duly elected mem­ber of the OPL Board of Trustees serves a five-year term with­out re­im­burse­ment. The win­ner of the March 5 elec­tion will serve on the board from July 1, 2019 un­til June 30, 2024, in line with the li­brary’s fis­cal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30.

The OPL board cur­rently con­sists of G. Richard Kinsella, Jr. ( pres­i­dent), Lil­lian White (vice-pres­i­dent), Bradford Adams (trea­surer), Pa­tri­cia Al­baugh (sec­re­tary), Heather de la Riva, Gary N. Tay­lor and Kather­ine Wo­j­ciechowski.

Also avail­able at the li­brary desk are ab­sen­tee bal­lot ap­pli­ca­tions for reg­is­tered vot­ers re­sid­ing in the Li­brary Dis­trict who are phys­i­cally dis­abled or ex­pect to be ab­sent from the dis­trict the day of the li­brary vote. The same ap­pli­ca­tions can be down­loaded and printed out from the OPL web site (www. midy­ork­lib.org/oneida). Filled­out ap­pli­ca­tions need to be re­turned to the li­brary by mail or in per­son, and the ac­tual ab­sen­tee bal­lots will be mailed af­ter Feb. 12.
