Karing Kitchen meals

Oneida — The Karing Kitchen at the First United Methodist Church, 116 W. Grove St., Oneida, will offer meals through Saturday, Jan. 26. A breakfast/coffee hour will be at 10:30 a.m. and lunch will be served from11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. On Sunday, Jan. 20, a brunch will be served immediatel­y following the 9 a.m. service. All are welcome.

Jean Collection

Oneida — The Oneida Area Council of Churches is collecting clean but used jeans throughout the month of January. All donated items will be made into insulation for homes affected by recent flooding, and Habitat for Humanity rebuilds. Drop-off locations include the Tri-Valley YMCA, 31 Express, Medicine Shoppe, local churches, Karing Kitchen, the Oneida Recreation Department, and Oneida Office Supply. Shall We Dance?

Utica — The Good News Center is hosting a new dance competitio­n called “Shall We Dance?” as a replacemen­t for Dance the Night Away. There is a $250 grand prize for each of the two age categories, 16-19 years old and 20 and up. Duets only are able to register. Competitor­s are asked to submit a video of one minute in length by Feb. 14. Dance instructor­s will select the best in the two age categories and those will compete on stage at the new Msgr. Willenburg Center at Notre Dame Jr.-Sr. High School on March 30. To enter, submit the video on a flash drive along with a nonrefunda­ble $25 entry fee. Competitor­s will be announced on March 1. Kingdom of Happiness Bible study

Utica — Living the Beatitudes in Everyday Life, by Father Jeffrey Kirby, will be held on Wednesdays through Feb. 27 from 10 a.m. to noon or 6-8 p.m. at The Good News Center, 10475 Cosby Manor Road, Utica.

Kingdom of Happiness unveils Jesus’ plan for happiness in the Beatitudes. In a world that offers fleeting pleasures in place of true happiness and false promises that actually lead us away from happiness, it’s time more than ever to turn to the Beatitudes and enter into the Kingdom of Happiness. Kingdom of Happiness will show how the Beatitudes are much more than nice sayings. They are the path to happiness charted by Christ himself.

Practice Lent

Utica — The Good News Center welcomes back Dave Barosci with his talk “Don’t Just ‘Do” Lent, Practice Lent” on Thursday, March 7, at 11 a.m. A national speaker for more than 15 years, Barosci gives a unique perspectiv­e on Lent. His approach to Lent is to look at several different ways to “practice” virtues. He challenges worshipers to think outside the box in practicing virtue. Imagine practicing confrontat­ion. Church pantry moved

Morrisvill­e — The Morrisvill­e Community Church Food Pantry has moved from the Cornell Cooperativ­e Building, 100 Eaton St., Morrisvill­e, to the lower level of theMorrisv­ille Community Church, located at 3824 Swamp Road, Morrisvill­e. New hours of operation are Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon, and the first Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon. Food is available outside of normal hours during emergencie­s. Mass times changed

Chittenang­o — Recently, Mass times at St. Patrick’s Church, Chittenang­o, have changed. Saturday vigil is at 4 p.m. Sunday service is at 10:30 a.m., and there is no longer an 8 a.m. Mass.

Friendship Inn open each Thursday

MORRISVILL­E — Friendship Inn at St. Joan of Arc Church offers a free weekly meal to the Morrisvill­e community every Thursday beginning at 5 p.m. Non-denominati­onal and open to all, regardless of financial need, Friendship Inn draws on a small army of volunteers who fulfill numerous tasks, from set-up, cooking, serving, to clean-up. Volunteers are always needed. Donations are welcome as well to supplement food offerings and to purchase equipment and supplies. Clothing donations accepted

ONEIDA — St. John’s Episcopal Church, 341 Main St., has been chosen by St. Pauly Textile, Inc. as a repository for used clothing. St. Pauly’s mission is to provide wearable clothing to people who need it, both in the United States and Third World countries. Items that can be collected include clothing, shoes, sneakers, belts, purses, linens, blankets, curtains and stuffed toys. No rags or fabric scraps, pillows, toys or household goods are accepted. Donations are not cut up or shredded. Items should be placed in plastic bags (no larger than 13 gal. size) and placed in the chute of the shed located on St. John’s driveway. Donations are acceptable any time of the day or night. This mission has provided more than 30 million garments to people all over the world who are in need.

Support for parents

Utica — Parents of Addicted Loved Ones (PAL) is a national organizati­on founded in Arizona. The group will be led by Michelle Holliday, who has been trained by PAL. Some of the topics covered are: addiction cycle, traits and behaviors, delayed emotional growth, role of family and enabling behaviors.
