AYSO auction ‘Track of the Cat’ Sherrill fishing derby

Oneida — The Oneida AYSO National Games team will host an auction fundraiser at the Verona VFW on Friday, May 31, beginning at 5 p.m. Gift baskets and premium items will be up for auction. The event will also feature food and drinks, door prizes, raffles, and a 50/50 raffle.

OHS Class of ‘59

Oneida — The Oneida High School Class of 1959 will mark 60 years since graduation on Aug. 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kanon Valley Country Club. Lunch will be held at 1 p.m. and consists of pulled pork and three sides. All OHS graduates from any year are welcome to attend. Send check for $20 to Perry Tooker III, 1284 N. Senior coffee

Stone Soup

Verona — Stone Soup, a free community dinner, will be served from 4:30-6 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, at the First Presbyteri­an Church on the corner of Rock Road and Main Street in Verona. The Seventh Day Baptist Congregati­on will prepare and serve the meal. All are welcome. A free will offering is accepted and all proceeds go to support the Verona Area Food Pantry.

Bible in an Hour

Sherrill — Plymouth Alliance Church will host “Fast Forward - The Bible in an Hour” on Wednesday, June 5, from 7-8 p.m. The Rev. Kurt Johnson will give an overview of the Bible’s contents in 45minutes. The focus will be on the Bible’s main points as well as highlight its united movement in broad, understand­able ways. Food Pantry open

Vernon — The Holy Family Church Food Pantry on Peterboro Road in Vernon serves families in Vernon, Vernon Center, Sherrill, Oneida Castle and Oriskany Falls. The food pantry is open the first and third Monday and Friday of every month. Monday is open 5-6:30 p.m. and Friday is open 9:30-11 a.m. Fresh food is the fourth Thursday of every month open 3-4:30 p.m.

‘Joe Time’ coffee shop

Rome — New York State Senate Deputy Minority Leader Joseph Griffo, R- 47, invites the public to join him at Copperccin­o’s in Rome on Friday, May 24, from 6:30-8:30 a.m., for his latest “Joe Time” coffee shop conversati­on. Griffo has hosted “Joe Time” sessions as a way to interact with and to hear from constituen­ts in a casual and relaxed setting. This Friday, WKAL 1450 will join Griffo to broadcast their morning show live.

Courthouse tour signup

Wampsville — On Saturday, May 25, the Madison County Courthouse will have a grand re-opening after a year and a half of restoratio­n. A special guided tour of the newly renovated courthouse will be offered that will feature a history of the building and the efforts made to restore key historic aspects including the stained glass windows, marble flooring, portraits and more. Guided tours will begin at 2 p.m. and start every 15 minutes until 5 p.m. Tours will take approximat­ely one hour. Stockbridg­e Memorial Day parade

Munnsville — The town of Stockbridg­e will hold a Memorial Day ceremony and parade on Sunday, May 26, beginning at 9 a.m. with the annual parade. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. at Stockbridg­e Park, followed by a concert by Matt & Thelma Chase from noon to 3 p.m. at Carlon Field. Fireworks will finish off the day at 9 p.m. at Carlon Field. Parade grand marshall is Donald Dymes and guest speaker is Assemblyma­n John Salka, R-121.

Durhamvill­e Memorial Day

Durhamvill­e — The Durhamvill­e (ANM) Veterans Club will hold its 69th annual Memorial Day service on Monday, May 27, in Durhamvill­e at 9:30 a.m. at the World War I Memorial at the corner of Broad and Foster streets, where the Color Guard will perform a wreath laying ceremony. This ceremony will be immediatel­y followed by a Memorial Day service at the clubhouse on the corner of Canal and John streets. This year’s guest speaker will be Ken Bundy, who served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. A reception, open to the public, will be held immediatel­y following the service.

Cazenovia— The Cazenovia Public Library will show the 1954 film “Track of the Cat” at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29 in the Community Room. The film is based on a 1949 adventure novel of the same name by Walter Van Tilburg Clark. During a harsh winter in northern California, members of a ranching family squabble at home while the two oldest sons hunt for a panther that is killing their livestock. Track of the Cat is rated approved and runs 102 minutes. Free popcorn provided.

Herkimer — Congressma­n Anthony Brindisi, D-22, will hold his May town hall on Thursday, May 30 at 6 p.m. at Herkimer County Community College. This event is free and open to all members of the community.

‘How to Train Your Dragon’

Cazenovia— The Cazenovia Public Library will present two free screenings of “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” at 3:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 31 in the Community Room. The 2019 computer- animated fantasy film is the sequel to “How to Train Your Dragon 2” and the final installmen­t in the “How to Train Your Dragon” film trilogy. The plot centers on Hiccup’s search for a dragon utopia called “The Hidden World.” The movie is rated PG and runs 104minutes. Free popcorn provided.

Spring Fun(d) Day

Cleveland — The Cleveland United Methodist Church will hold its 34th annual Spring Fun(d) Day on May 31 from 5-8 p.m. There will be a rummage and bake sale, as well as food. On June 1 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. will be a rummage and bake sale, chicken BBQ, games and bounce house, food, and music from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be a charity auction at noon provided by Messier’s Auction Service.

Stand Against Povery

Utica — Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency will hold the “Stand Against Poverty Parade” at its Utica Community Action Access Point (CAAP), 1100 Miller St, on May 31 at 11:30 a.m. with a walk leaving the CAAP and proceeding to the Agency’s Calvary Site, 308 South St., and returning to the CAAP. At the CAAP at approximat­ely noon, event speakers will talk about the problems and possible solutions for poverty in our community. Scheduled to speak are Congressma­n Anthony Brindisi, D-22, and Amy Turner, executive director, MVCAA. The event is free and open to the public.

Community Art Wall at Sherrill Library

Sherrill — The Sherrill Kenwood Library Community Art Wall for the month of May will display the work of young artists, ages 2-5, who attend Cornue’s Children Corner. The display exhibits the students play. Cornue’s Children Corner has been serving children in Sherrill and the surroundin­g communitie­s for over 20 years. ‘Cutting the Cord’

Sherrill — The city of Sherrill will hold its annual Kids Fishing Derby for children ages 15 and younger on Saturday, June 8, at Sherrill Pond. Sign-ups begin at 11 a.m. and each child will receive a goody bag with fish supplies. Fishing will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Every registered child will receive a door prize. Grand prizes will be awarded at 2 p.m. Age groups are ages 5 and younger; ages 6-7; ages 8-9; and ages 10-15. The derby is free. Food and drinks will be available.

Lakeside Farmers Market

‘Decorative Threads’

Clinton — “Decorative Threads” is the current display at the Clinton Historical Society. There are dresses, smocks, and shirts from the mid to late 19th century as well as a large collection of lace and beaded purses. All of these items show the workmanshi­p of the mid to late Victorian period, whether made by hand or later by machine. It was often women who worked hard to perfect their designs as wearing lace and embellishm­ents on clothing was an important sign of status and prosperity. The historical society is openWednes­days and Saturdays from 1-4 p.m.

5-hour course offered

BOCES Consortium for Continuing Education currently holds the approved DMV NYS pre-licensing 5 hour course at the following locations most Saturday’s from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rome YMCA, 301 W. Bloomfield St., Rome, and the Oneida Rec Center, 217 Cedar St., Oneida. Class is also held the first Thursday of every month from January to June 2019 from 4-9 p.m. at Hamilton High School, 24 W. Kendrick Ave., Hamilton. The cost is currently $50, payable by cash or check to Madison-Oneida BOCES. You must have a valid picture Learner’s Permit in order to attend.
