Arts Festival showcases CNY artisans
SHERBURNE, N.Y. >> On Saturday, June 8, the eighth annual Sherburne Arts Festival will take place in Gaines Park on East State Street, next to the Sherburne Public Library in Sherburne.
Beginning at 10 a.m., the festival will showcase the work of artists and crafters from Central New York and the Southern Tier, featuring works of art in a variety of media: photography, watercolor, oil paintings, glass work, home décor, jewelry, fiber arts, woodwork, metal sculpture, gourds, handmade soaps, lotions, food products, and more.
The featured artist this year is Sherburne resident Anita L. Garzione, who will give a presentation at the library on Friday evening, June 7, as well as exhibiting and talking about her work on Saturday. In addition to live music on June 8, there will also be a juried exhibit of artwork by Sherburne-Earlville Central School students and an interactive kids’ art tent with plenty of supervised projects with still more children’s art activities inside the library.
Other special exhibits will also return: The Art of the Bird, with master falconer Rick West and his birds of prey; Out of the Cage Pet Mobile, an educational exhibit that features such interesting wildlife as hedgehogs, Madagascar hissing cockroaches, ferrets, parrots, and bearded dragons; and artist Jim Coon will be back to draw caricatures of attendees.
Raff les and a ticket auction will be ongoing throughout the day, with dozens of gift baskets donated by local businesses and residents. All proceeds will benefit the Sherburne Public Library and the Arts Festival. The festival is a revival of the original art show begun in 1947 by local artist Mariea Brown.
All artwork is under tents in case of rain, and there will be food and drink available for purchase throughout the day. Parking is available in several village lots and on the street.
