Run for the Woods set for Aug. 18
Nature lovers, sports enthusiasts, families, and their supporters will gather at the starting line at the fourth annual “Run for The Woods” at Baltimore Woods Nature Center on Sunday, Aug. 18.
MANLIUS, N.Y. >> This August, nature lovers, sports enthusiasts, families, and their supporters will gather at the starting line at the fourth annual “Run for The Woods” at BaltimoreWoods Nature Center to show their support for environmental education and stewardship in the community.
There will be a 1K fun run at 8:30 a.m. with the 5K race to kick off at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18. The cost is $25 per runner on or before Aug. 15 and $35 per runner on race day. The race will be capped at 175 runners. The fun run is for children ages 10 and under and is free; pre-registration is not required.
This family- friendly, healthy event features a challenging cross-country style 5K trail run that showcases the 182-acre preserve, introducing runners and their supporters to a place that more than 20,000 people visit each year. Runners (and registered walkers, too) will travel over hills and through valleys, along streams and ponds, and back through the meadow to the finish line. Kids 10 and under can join in the free 1K Kids Fun Run in the meadow at 8:30 a.m.
The morning will include children’s activities and a post-race celebration with prizes fromlocal businesses to the top runners by age category and Doug’s ice cream. Those who want to support the race without running can enter the “No Sweat” raffle and have a chance to win a grand prize basket ($500 value). The race is sponsored by Doug’s Fish Fry of Skaneateles, Wegmans, Central New York Community Foundation, Dr. Vance’s Family Chiropractic, Rebound Sports & Orthopedic Physical Therapy, Tessy Plastics, Dr. Taryn Smith Jirousek Family Dentistry, and Dick’s Sporting Goods. All proceeds benefit Baltimore Woods Nature Center in its mission to provide environmental education and stewardship in the Central New York region. Baltimore Woods Nature Center is located at 4007 Bishop Hill Road, Marcellus. The Interpretive Center is openMonday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closed Sundays. Hiking trails are open every day from dawn to dusk with free admission and parking.
