HAMILTON, N.Y. >> Defending Patriot League Champion Colgate is set to be featured on Stadium twice during the 2019 season.

The Raiders host fellow FCS Playoff quarterfinalist Maine on Sept. 21 before welcoming Lehigh to Hamilton on Oct. 5. Both games are being televised nationally via Stadium’s overthe-air (OTA) channels during the 2019 season.

Each of the games also will be distributed live on Stadium’s digital outlets including Roku, Pluto TV, Twitch.TV, Samsung TV Plus, and XUMO. The package includes a free live stream of each national game shown on WatchStadium.com and on the Patriot League Network (PLN).

Colgate’s two appearances are part of the nine-game Patriot League schedule on Stadium.

Veteran Patriot League and national television play-by-play announcer Matt Martucci and Dave Owens, who played collegiately at the U.S. Naval Academy, will be back on the call for the Patriot League’s football games on Stadium. They will work with Emmy-award winning producer Bob Lanning, who was instrumental in the launch of the Big Ten Network and received recognition for his work on Winter and Summer Olympic coverage for ABC Sports, in

addition to directing inaugural HD broadcasts of the NFL, The Masters and the U.S. Open Tennis Championship for CBS Sports.

SHORT CASTS

Lyme Disease Remains A Threat: As mentioned last week there is increased danger of being infected by ticks at this stage of the summer due to the long grass or brush and most people wearing shorts due to the warm weather.

When you think you may have been exposed to ticks, you should check carefully for the small black insects. Carefully remove them with a tweezers and take the tick in a container to your physician for evaluation. Do not smother the tick with Vaseline or apply heat since this might cause the tick to regurgitate infectious fluids. For most tick-borne diseases you have 24 hours to find and remove the tick before it transmits any infection.

Prevention is the best approach. Stay in the middle of trails and avoid areas of wet leaves, etc. Use an insect repellent on any exposed skin. Traditionally this has meant something with DEET, which can also cause problems through prolonged or excessive use. Some people are sensitive or even allergic to DEET so this must be used carefully..

Symptoms and severity of Lyme Disease vary widely in people. Usually, but not always, there is a bulls-eye rash. Fever, headache, fatigue, stiff neck and joint pain are other early warnings. Pets may exhibit a sudden onset of lameness in one or more of the animal’s legs.

As always check with your physician if there is any question. To find out more about Lyme Disease contact the NYS Dept of Health toll free at 1-800-458-1158, Madison County Health Dept., or contact the American Lyme Disease Foundation, Mill Pond Offices, 293 Rte 100, Somers, NY 10589 or call 1-800-876LYME. Another great source of information on prevention, symptoms, and tick identification is a brochure put out by the Lyme Disease Association ( LDA). Call LDA toll free at 888-366-6611 or email them at LDA@LymeDiseaseAssociation.org.

No River & Rail Trips: This year there will be none of the popular River & Rail trips on the Moose River at Old Forge. When talking to Dan Tickner recently, he said that the current administration of the Adirondack Railroad could not guarantee scheduled trips or the availability of the baggage car so the working agreement has been cancelled. This leaves many disappointed paddlers!

Tickners is still renting canoes and kayaks for the Moose River and the extremely popular float trip down the North Branch from Rondaxe Lake or North St. is still available. Shuttle service and rentals are available. Call 315-369-6286 for information or reservations.

Hunter & Trapper Education: With the sale of licenses starting this month, many new hunters will be looking to take the necessary Hunter Education classes. With online registration the DEC has made taking these classes easier than before. The list of available classes and registration may be viewed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They may be viewed from any device – smartphone, tablet, or computer. If you have trouble finding one, you can visit the DEC website or any local office for assistance.

Students must complete the homework prior to the required classroom and field course. Register well in advance to allow time to complete the homework. Access to the homework material and online homework options are found on the DEC website.
