MVCC to host events for International Week
The college will host its annual International Festival next week.
UTICA, N.Y. >> Mohawk Valley Community College will host several events for International Week, which is Oct. 24-31.
The college will host its annual International Festival from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, in the Alumni College Center Commons at the Utica Campus.
This event is a chance for MVCC’s international students to share their heritage through displays, music, and an international fashion show. All are welcome.
On Tuesday, Oct. 29, there will be an International Café and Conversation, “The World is your Marketplace: From Community College to World Stage” with Michael Sedge, global journalist and author. Hewill give the talk at 2:30 p.m. in Alumni College Center room 116 at the Utica Campus, then again at 6 p.m. in Plumley Complex room 119 at the Rome Campus.
At 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, Professor Christi Harrington will host the art workshop and lecture, “Day of the Dead Sugar Skulls,” in which she will discuss the Day of the Dead history, the rituals and traditions involving the holiday, and will show participants how to make their own
sugar skulls, which will be on display in the College Library through Nov. 3.
The events were organized by MVCC’s International Initiatives Committee and Cultural Events Council. Admission to all events is free.
