VERNON-VERONA-SHERRILL 50, CAMDEN40 >> VVS led 14-9 after the first quarter. Phoenix Weydig made two 3-pointers and a basket to lead VVS with eight points. In the second quarter, Blue Devil Richie Paul scored 6 of Camden’s 8 points, but Red Devil Bailey Janowski offset him by sinking four free throws and a bucket for 6 points. Camden trimmed the VVS lead to 6 points after the third. In the final quarter, Bryce Palmer came up with three key steals and VVS made seven of eight free throws as they outscored Camden 15-11. Sam Donnelly held the game’s high-scorer, Richie Paul, to two free throws in the fourth quarter. Phoenix Weydig led VVS with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Bailey Janowski chipped in with 16 points and 8 rebounds. VVS, now 2-1 on the year, returns to action against Oneida on Wednesday, Dec. 18.

Clinton outscored Oneida 20-4 in the second quarter of Friday’s matchup to carry a 30-15 lead into the intermissi­on. However, Jeff Didio’s side came to life in the second half, particular­ly in the final quarter of regulation when Oneida outscored the visitors 20-9 to force overtime. Clinton spoiled the comeback bid in the extra period, fending off Oneida by three points to steal a road win. Tanner Deveans and Dan Fitzgerald led the way for the visitors with 17 points each. Jacob Vaccaro had another strong night for Oneida in the defeat, netting a game-high 24 points. Will Merrell (14) and Hunter West (11) also entered double figures for the hosts in the loss.

Christa Usborne matched Coleman with 14 for Madison in the victory.
