The need for lowering drug costs

-

I’m a 33 year old solo parent of two young children, and at my most recent health physical my blood sugar was higher than I expected. Within the last couple of years my mother was diagnosed with diabetes, which her father had as well. I don’t know much about being pre-diabetic, but the idea of all the changes to my lifestyle and budget that could possibly be coming my way feel really daunting. Maybe you’ve had a similar experience or know someone who has.

I’m not a person who has healthcare on her mind constantly, but now I’mpaying more attention. I’ve read about people dying because they can’t afford their insulin, which keeps them alive. I’ve seen testimonials about families making choices about paying for their medicine or getting enough food to eat. Is this what could happen to me?

I read that Congressman Brindisi voted yes on HR 3, which is the bill that would lower drug costs and put caps on how much families would spend on medications. If this legislation were to pass the Senate and be signed into law, it would literally save lives, maybe even someone you know or myself one day.

I’m really grateful that Congressman Brindisi voted yes on this bill because lives are at stake, and our government should always be working to protect and care about people’s lives. And thanks to his vote, I’m feeling more hopeful that any changes to my health means less of a chance for financial crisis for my family. Sarah Reeske
