‘Walk with a Doc’ event in Cazenovia next month

CANZENOVIA, N.Y. » Residents can take part in the Walk With a Doc event hosted by the Madison County Rural Health Council.

The walk is a health program that brings doctors, patients, and community members together to walk once a month in locations throughout the county.

The first walk will take place on Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. on the Cazenovia “Monday Mile” which begins at Lakeland Park. Dr. Adam Berg, Gastroente­rologist, will start the walk talking about IBD- Inflammato­ry Bowel Disease.

Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m.11 a.m. on the Oneida Rail Trail “Monday Mile” on Seneca Street in Oneida (beside the Oneida High School) with Dr. Daniel Ratnarajah from MDVIP- affiliated with Primary Care Practice in Oneida AND Saturday, May 9 from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. on the Chittenang­o Creek Walk “Monday Mile” with Dr. Heidi Puc from IM CNY in Chittenang­o.

These events are free and preregistr­ation is not required. All are welcome to join the walk.

Walk with a Doc is a national non-profit organizati­on created by Dr. David Sabgir, a cardiologi­st with Mount Carmel Health Systems in Columbus, OH. He has walked with patients and community members every weekend since 2005.

verse the consequenc­es of a sedentary lifestyle in order to improve the health and well-being of the country. The Madison County Rural Health Council is dedicated to promoting the WWAD program and its mission in Madison County.

According to the American Heart Associatio­n, walking as little as 30 minutes a day can provide the following benefits:

• Improve blood pressure and blood sugar levels

• Help maintain a healthy body weight and lower the risk of obesity

• Enhance mental wellbeing

• Reduce the risk of osteoporos­is
