CCE Provides Disaster Preparedness through EDEN

- Cornell Cooperative Extension Madison County – Tess Southern Cornell Cooperative Extension is an employer and educator recognized for valuing AA/ EEO, Protected Veterans, and Individuals with Disabilities and provides equal program and employment opportun

The first thing that a new employee with Cornell Cooperative Extension realizes is that they have access to an incredible amount of information and research. There are resources such as Cornell Small Farms Program that can be matched with producers for training purposes and, in general, the Cornell College of Agricultural and Life Sciences ( CALS) for the most up to date research on everything from the impact of climate change to the expected fluctuations in milk prices in the upcoming year.

Another resource that we are excited to bring to the residents of Madison County is the New York Extension Disaster Education Network ( NY EDEN). Many people may not think of disaster education when they consider the subjects that Cornell Cooperative Extension has expertise in, but cooperative extensions across the state help with programming on agrosecurity, families and pets, natural hazards, preparedness and more!

NY EDEN is a collaborative educational network based at Cornell University and is dedicated to educating New York ( and Madison County!) residents about preventing, preparing for and recovering from emergencies and disasters. Using a collection of research- based guidelines and best practices from across the national Extension network, NY EDEN provides communication outreach on these critical and timely subjects through the NY EDEN website, eden. cce. cornell. edu, as well as through its social media channels. NY EDEN is affiliated with the national USDA Extension Disaster Education Network ( EDEN) which is an organization of land- grant universities that, like Extension educators from across the United States and throughout various disciplines, enable them to develop and use resources to reduce the impact of disasters.

Cornell Cooperative Extension is one of Madison County’s best resources. We are still helping farmers increase crop yields, get sales platforms set up online, and access funding through grants and loans. We are still working with every school in Madison County in our Cornell in the Classroom program and changing the lives of thousands of young people through the 4- H Program. In addition to these, and the many other services we provide, we are also invested in helping the entire community prepare for disasters. If you would like more information about this important program, please contact us at our office: Cornell Cooperative Extension of Madison County, 100 Eaton Street, Morrisville, NY 13408 | 315.684.3001 | madison@ cornell. edu or contact Ag Subject Educator Tess Southern at tas264@ cornell. edu and ( 315) 684- 3001 ext. 101.
