Two electric-car charging stations now available
CANASTOTA, N.Y. » Electric cars now have a place to charge in the Village of Canastota.
Officials say the village received funding from both the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NSYERDA) and National Grid to install two new electric car charging stations available to the public at the parking lot on 205 South Peterboro St.
These charging stations can connect more of the public to Canastota’s prominent recreation
trails and its quaint downtown scene.
“This is an opportunity for people in surrounding communities to visit, walk on the Lenox Rail Trail or the Erie Canal, charge their vehicles, and grab some lunch downtown. We’re excited to continue growing,” Mayor Rosanne Warner said.
Not only are these chargers an asset to visitors in the community, but they’re vital to the village too, officials say.
What’s more, the village has reportedly received additional grant funds to purchase a new plug-in hybrid vehicle for the codes enforcement officer. Officials say the current vehicle being driven by this position is aged and was bought used from another municipality. Using this new hybrid vehicle can cut down on fuel and repair costs.
“These grant funds by NYSERDA support sustainable initiatives around New York State. These funds have helped our community save money through this vehicle purchase, efficient lighting in our municipally-owned buildings, and even with new LED street lights,” said Jenn Farwell, village administrator.
The car chargers are available in the village municipal lot 24 hours a day. Have questions? Call the Canastota Village Office at (315) 697-7559.
