Supporter of the ‘Thin Blue Line’ flag

- Kevin Markowski Erieville

The thin Blue line Flag. I am a supporter of the flag to remain flying at Madison county properties. As a veteran, past firefighter and fire chief in Madison county I understand the symbolism of this flag to our law enforcement. The removal of this flag disrespects these fine officers, which is a disgrace. You can say you respect them, but actions speak louder than words. If that flag is removed I will be offended myself as well as for the men and women of our law enforcement. This symbol was flying well before 1/6/2021 as a tribute to our Nations law enforcement, so how can this symbolism be changed due to one event carried out illegally by rioters? I have yet to find any video that proves this flag was at the capitol that day. If it was it was not the only flag there that day. So, If this flag needs to be removed than all flags involved must fall under the same terms of offense, meaning that the American flag must be removed as well. That would be un-american. We can’t pick and choose. I served my country for the American Flag, I served along side law enforcement as a firefighter and fire chief many times. I AM OFFENDED THAT THE REMOVAL OF THIS FLAG IS EVEN BEING CONSIDERED. I applaud John Becker for his response to the offended as many others would be offended by its removal. Back in the day, we were told if you don’t like the looks of something, don’t look at it. I suggest the offended not look at it if they don’t like it.

As for the survey at the Oneida Dispatch, Only subscribers would know of it and word of mouth from subscribers. A fair survey would be sent out by Madison county of which would be expensive at a time when money is tight. How about putting it on the next election ballet? Let all the voting county residents decide rather than a few subscribers or putting this all on the board of supervisors.
