Sheriff’s office seeks suspect who fled stolen vehicle
Town of Vernon, N.Y. — The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) is looking for a suspect who recently fled a stolen vehicle in the Town of Vernon.
The OCSO responded to the Town of Vernon to assist the NYS ENCON Police with a reported stolen vehicle from the City of Utica, said Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol in a news release Monday.
The vehicle in question crashed at the intersection of Beaver Meadow Road and State Route 5, Maciol said. The driver then fled on foot into the wooded area to the north.
During the course of the next 5-6 hours, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, NYS Police, Utica Police, and ENCON Police conducted a search of the wooded area, according to the sheriff’s office. Police said they were able to identify the male that fled the scene as 36-year-old Gregory Brown.
He is described as a black male, bald, 5’11”, and 190 lbs. Brown is wanted on Felony Warrants as well as fleeing from the motor vehicle crash.
Brown has yet to be apprehended, and the sheriff’s office is asking for the public’s help in finding him.
If the public has any information of the whereabouts of Brown, they are asked to contact 911, the sheriff’s office at (315) 736-0141, or Crime Stoppers.
