Author presentation: Author Deirdre Sinnott will present on her years of research that provide the accurate historical background for her first novel The Third Mrs. Galway at the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum, 5255 Pleasant Valley Road, Peterboro, NY 13134 at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 1 Book Discussion: Stop into Morrisville Public Library at the beginning of the month to grab a copy of the book, The Light Between Oceans by ML Stedman for this month’s community book discussion. Thoughts can be posted on the library’s Facebook event from September 16-30. Or just read the book because you want to. Classics With Chelle: On Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. starting September 1, Morrisville Public Library Manager, Michelle Rounds will read stories on Facebook Live. The first will be James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. Fun for kids and adults! This program will run from September 1 through October 13. It will be live on Facebook until October 31, 2021, when it will be removed. Take-n-make Crafts: Stop into the Morrisville Library any time this month and get some crafts to do at home. Crafts include a Hello Fall sign, a leaf hedgehog magnet, and some scratch art leaves. Craft kits are for kids ages 2-15 ONLY, while supplies last. New Morrisville Library hours: The library will be open Monday, Wednesday, Friday 12 p.m.-7 p.m., Tuesday/thursday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (These hours will last through winter. The weekend of Memorial Day, summer hours will return. ADK Mountain Club meeting: The Iroquois Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club will resume their in-person meetings at 7 p.m. at The First Baptist Church in New Hartford. The guest speaker will be Stu Miller presenting on the Sherrill Brook Park Community Forest Coalition. This coalition comprises a group of residents and several organizations to preserve and enlarge Sherrill

Brook Park in the towns of New Hartford and Kirkland. Non-motorized trails would be enhanced and created to connect these two towns. Stu is a resident of New Hartford and enjoys many outdoor activities, specifically fishing and pickleball.

Pedal for Autism: With 1 in 54 kids diagnosed with autism each day, help The Kelberman Center to promote understanding and awareness of autism through a 10 or 20-mile charity bike ride that will take place at Woods Valley in Rome. The Pedal for Autism, with lead sponsor Birch Wealth Management, will be an enjoyable way to spend a morning to help raise funding for children, adults, and their families who receive Kelberman Center services. Blood Analysis Program:

The Zonta Club of Oneida is sponsoring the AMBA (Annual Metathasic Blood Analysis) Wellness program, a blood screening program that serves as a community service as well as a fundraiser. The program will take place at the Canastota American Legion, 325 S. Peterboro Street. A comprehensive battery of blood tests is available for $41.00 payable by check or money order made out to AMBA. No cash, please. Proof of identity is required. This service is not covered by health insurance, so if you don’t have health insurance, this is a much more affordable opportunity to have your blood tested. Proof of ID is requested. Pre-authorization by your physician is required. Officials say physicians are commonly very willing to give approval to their patients for this worthwhile program. This event is held twice a year, in September and in March. Appointments for the upcoming event are available from 7-10 a.m. Call 1-800-2348888 Monday-friday 8:30 a.m. — 5 p.m. Provide your physician’s name and address at the time of the call. The Zonta Club requests a $5 sponsor fee at the time of the screening. This money is used to fund educational scholarships for women in the community.

CNY Talent Awards Application due: CNY ATD is seeking applications for the 14th Annual CNY BEST Talent Development Awards to recognize excellence in talent development practices in the Central New York area in the following categories: Organization (For-profit): Business entities that have linked talent development to the business’ strategic growth or success Organization (Not for Profit): Non-profit, government, or academic entities or collaborations that have linked talent development for their internal or external stakeholders to the organization’s (or organizations’) strategic growth or success Consultant: External organizations or individuals who have helped link talent development to a client’s (or clients’) strategic growth or success Individual/team: Internal employees or teams of employees who have contributed to internal or external customers’ talent development growth or success Recognition covers the central part of New York State from the North Country to the Southern Tier and from the Senecacayuga Corridor to the Mohawk Valley. Nominate your organization, employees, or consultants for their talent development activities and successes. Applications are due September 20, 2021. The 2021 CNY BEST Talent Development Awards Ceremony will be held on November 4, 2021, 5-8:15 p.m. at the Doubletree by Hilton Syracuse. This year’s keynote speaker will be Melanie Littlejohn, Vice President of Customer and Community Management of National Grid.

Saturday, September 25 Walk to End Alzheimer’s: The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Mohawk Valley residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® at Rome Free Academy. While plans are moving forward to host the Utica/rome Walk in person, the health and safety of participants, staff, and volunteers remain the top priorities as decisions are made about event details.
