Morrisvill­e anticipati­ng women’s soccer and cross-country

The SUNY Morrisvill­e athletics department released the Mustangs women’s soccer schedule, and behind a solid roster, while drive forward in 2021 as members of the United East Conference.

Morrisvill­e, who is set to open the season Wednesday with a home bout against Division III newcomer SUNY Delhi, will do so with a roster of 23 strong, including nine that gained a wealth of experience in 2019.

“The staff and players are eager to get back to the pitch after a tough 2020 year for all,” said head coach Paul Allsopp. “It’s a new season with a new coaching staff and we’re anxious to implement new ideas to drive the team to a conference tournament berth.”

Morrisvill­e’s path to the United East Conference schedule will meet four non-conference opponents, including former rival

SUNY Poly, before meeting league newcomer St. Mary’s College.

Morrisvill­e will open with two straight home contests, Wednesday, Sept. 1st against Delhi, before welcoming the University of Pittsburgh bradford to campus on the 3rd.

A road game at Castleton University on the 11th will be the Mustangs first away trip, before returning home for four consecutiv­e contests, including a Wednesday evening battle with SUNY Poly on the 15th.

The Mustangs open conference play on the 18th against St. Mary’s, and follow on the 19th against Gallaudet, before taking on non-conference opponent Hilbert on the 22nd.

Morrisvill­e will again hit the road on the 25th for a south battle against Penn St. Berks, before returning home for a Route 20 rival outing against Cazenovia on the 29th.

October sees the Mustangs head south once again to Penn St. Harrisburg on the 2nd, before hosting four straight with Canton on the 6th.

Penn College comes to town on Oct. 10 followed by SUNY ESF on the 13th, before Morrisvill­e wraps up the home slate on the 20th with a United East outing against Wells.

The final two regular season games will take place in Pennsylvan­ia, the 23rd at Lancaster Bible, and the 30th at Penn St. Abington.

“We are looking forward to welcoming St. Mary’s to the conference, which I’m sure will be a tough home conference opener,” said Allsopp. “Our last three games of the regular season are all against United East opponents and will be a critical point in the season for us.”

In other Morrisvill­e athletics news, SUNY Morrisvill­e athletics has released the 2021 men’s and women’s cross country schedule, a six meet lineup before the scheduled United East Conference championsh­ips late October.

Morrisvill­e will kick off the season on Saturday, Sept. 4 at Division II Lemoyne College for the Dolphins Invitation­al with a 10:15 a.m. start.

The following week, the Mustangs will head to former conference rival SUNY Cobleskill as the women toe the line at 10:30 a.m., followed by men with their start at 11:30.
