SVCS keeps up hot start to fall sports; more local scores

- By Joshua Wagner jwagner@oneidadispatch.com

After the lady Cougars scored a win on their season opener, the boys looked to do the same. But, even though it was a dark and gloomy day, it did not rain on the Cougar’s win parade as the boys took home a 6-1 win over Otselic Valley.

Senior Tyler Fisher had a phenomenal game as he led the Cougars to a season-opening win with three goals and two assists. The Smith twins also chipped into the effort, with Alex Smith notching two goals and one assist and Ethan Smith putting in one goal and one assist. The Cougars controlled most of the possession and tempo of the game as they pressed the second half playing ten v ten due to red cards to Riley Lalonde and OV’S Brandon Brown. The Cougars outshot OV 24-6. Owen Davis put in the only goal for the Vikings on a long-range shot from the far right side, but otherwise, Freshmen Goalkeep Braden Renner secured five saves to secure the Cougars’ win.

Stockbridge Valley head coach Jay Lehmann said, “Fisher did a great job of playing unselfishly and feeding his teammates, and he got rewarded with some great balls

back that he was able to finish off. We are trying to build something new here, and today was definitely a step in the right direction. I felt like the guys were really buying in, and their pre-season work definitely paid off.
