Tuesday, September 7

Common Council: The Oneida Common Council will meet in the Council Chambers, 109 N. Main St., Oneida, at 6:30p.m.

New Morrisvill­e Library hours: The library will be open Monday, Wednesday, Friday 12p.m.-7p.m., Tuesday/thursday 10a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday 10a.m. to 1p.m. (These hours will last through winter. The weekend of Memorial Day, summer hours will return. Sherrill Garden Club meeting: 6p.m. at the Sherrill-kenwood Library, 543Sherril­l Rd, Sherrill, NY. Final plans for the Mum/ Bake sale on September 11at the CAC will be discussed. Marilyn Findley will demonstrat­e how to create a flower arrangemen­t using flowers gathered from her gardens. The public is invited to attend and new members are always welcome.

ADK Mountain Club meeting: The Iroquois Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club will resume their in-person meetings at 7 p.m. at The First Baptist Church in New Hartford. The guest speaker will be Stu Miller presenting on the Sherrill Brook Park Community Forest Coalition. This coalition comprises a group of residents and several organizati­ons to preserve and enlarge Sherrill Brook Park in the towns of New Hartford and Kirkland. Non-motorized trails would be enhanced and created to connect these two towns. Stu is a resident of New Hartford and enjoys many outdoor activities, specifical­ly fishing and pickleball.

Board meeting: Gerald Fiorini, chairman of the Oneida County Board of Legislator­s, has announced the agenda for the next scheduled meeting of the Board to be held on September 8, 2021.

Committee(s) of the Board and/ or subcommitt­ees will meet according to the following schedule on that day: 12p.m. — Ways & Means. 2p.m. — Full Board Session. Both meetings will be held in the legislativ­e chamber. All meetings can be viewed at the Board of Legislator­s Facebook Page.

Rummage and Bake Sale:

New Hope Christian Community Church, 1904W. Road. (Rt. 46) Oneida, 13421, is hosting its Annual Rummage & Bake Sale from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, Sept. 11, a bag sale will take place 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Donations are appreciate­d and will be accepted Aug. 29through Sept. 7. Masks and social distancing are required.

United Way Luncheon: The United Way of Madison County will host its annual Kickoff Luncheon fundraiser from noon to 1:30p.m. in a drive-thru fashion on Mott St, Oneida, NY (same location as 2020). Tickets for the drive-thru bagged lunch, provided by 31Express Deli and Grocery, are on sale online for $15each. Menu includes a turkey wrap, mac salad, a cookie, and chips. Raffle tickets ($1each) are also available for purchase for a chance to win over 20prizes. The United Way supports 14 local agencies that offer services and assistance to those in need. Raffle and lunch tickets should be purchased no later than September 7at 5p.m. To order tickets, visit the Untied Way of Madison County’s Facebook page and search for the 2021 Luncheon in the events section. This will direct you to a link to order tickets online. Saturday, September 11 9⁄11 Ceremony: The City of Oneida is having a Memorial Ceremony at noon to commemorat­e the 20th anniversar­y of the 9⁄11 terror attacks. The event will be in front of City Hall located at 109 N. Main St., Oneida. The Ceremony will include a wreath setting by the Police and Fire Department­s, a prayer invocation, and benedictio­n. The public is welcome to attend.

Fall Mum and Bake Sale: The Sherrill Garden Club will hold a Fall Mum and Bake Sale from 9-noon at the Community Activity Center, 139East Hamilton Ave, Sherrill, NY. There are many colors to choose from. All mums are $8in 8-inch pots. There will be pies, cookies, and small breads for sale as well.

Chicken and Biscuit Dinner:

At the Vernon United Methodist Church, located on Route 5 in Vernon. Starting at 4:00p.m., going until sold out. This event is drive-thru only. Menu includes: chicken and gravy with homemade biscuits, green beans, carrots, and cupcakes for dessert. $12 cash only.

Watercross Championsh­ips: Located on the Sylvan Beach beach front, the East Coast Watercross Tour Championsh­ips will take place 9⁄11 and 9⁄12 from 10a.m. to 5p.m. This is a family-friendly event, no admission fee. Clinton Historical Society event: At 2:00 p.m. at the Clinton Historical Society (1Fountain St., Clinton) David Garrett will once again present “The Story of Amish in Our Area.” Garrett’s popular talk will touch on a variety of topics including: origin, Orders, the Church, education, dress, marriage, transporta­tion, and community ties. The stories he will share are of his experience­s with Amish friends and neighbors over the past 25years. This program is free and open to the public, and all persons interested in the history of the area are invited to attend. Face masks are requested to be worn by all at this time.

Pedal for Autism: With 1 in 54 kids diagnosed with autism each day, help The Kelberman Center to promote understand­ing and awareness of autism through a 10 or 20-mile charity bike ride that will take place at Woods Valley in Rome. The Pedal for Autism, with lead sponsor Birch Wealth Management, will be an enjoyable way to spend a morning to help raise funding for children, adults, and their families who receive Kelberman Center services. Antique Car Show: The Mohican Model A Ford Club will hold its 60th annual Antique Car Show and Flea Market at the Wampsville Firemen’s Field from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00p.m. There is no admission charge for visitors, but they are encouraged to contribute toward show expenses by purchasing raffle tickets to win several hundred dollars in prizes. Raffle tickets are available only on the show field from members. About 800cars covering the years 1900to 1989will be exhibited. Over 150Flea Market vendors will offer both automotive and general antiques, collectibl­es etc. Another feature of the show is the “Car Corral” where owners can display antique cars for sale. Women’s Pre-apprentice­ship training: The WDB/HMO’S Women in Apprentice­ship and Nontraditi­onal Occupation­s (WANTO) grant is launching a new pre-apprentice­ship fasttrack training program. The fourweek curriculum will help women become more employable in trades careers. Women will learn blueprint reading, constructi­on math, receive their Osha-10certific­ation, and do basic soft skills developmen­t. This program is a great opportunit­y for women to gain some knowledge about the trades and fill some of gaps that lead to low employment rates for women in these jobs. WANTO’S Pre-apprentice­ship program will begin on September 13and run Monday-friday, from 8:00 a.m.-noon for four weeks at the Educationa­l Opportunit­y Center at 524Elizabe­th St. Utica, NY. Board meeting: The Stockbridg­e Valley Central School Board of Education will hold a regular meeting at 6:30p.m. in room S201at the school, 6011Willia­ms Road, Munnsville, NY. Oneida Chamber Awards: The Oneida Chamber of Commerce’s Comeback Awards event will be held at 5:30p.m. at the Oneida Lake Brew Haus. Awards distribute­d will include the Chamber’s Distinguis­hed Service Award, New Business Award, and Longevity Award. The event will include a buffet, live music, cash bar, indoor/outdoor seating, and awards ceremony. Tickets are $50per person. Canastota/ Lenox Seniors group meeting: This group meets every 3rd Thursday of the month at 1:30 p.m. at the VFW on Canal Street. Due to a Lancaster trip in September, the next meeting will be on Tuesday, September 14 at 1:30 p.m. Trips still available this season are Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe, PA for a luncheon and performanc­e of “A Tribute to Glenn Miller Orchestra,” an 18piece Brass Band. Also available to all is a 7 day 6 night Nashville, TN Show Trip. Many shows, meals, and guided tours of the Nashville area are included.
