Your thoughts create realities

- Catherine Galasso Vigorito

What are you thinking at this moment? What do you see in your mind’s eye when you look out into your future?

Are you expecting great things to happen? Do you believe you can accomplish your dreams?

What are you thinking at this moment? What do you see in your mind’s eye when you look out into your future?

Are you expecting great things to happen? Do you believe you can accomplish your dreams? Our life responds to our thoughts. What we think about creates our future. And, what we focus upon the most can appear in our life.

A mother and her daughter were walking on the beach along the ocean. It was a chilly, overcast afternoon, as the storm clouds gathered in the west. Soon, a blustery wind began sweeping over the ashen-colored ocean, and the waves rose higher and higher, crashing on the sandy beach.

After walking for some time, the mother stopped, looked at the waves before her and asked her daughter, “Does the choppy ocean remind you of anything?”

Contemplating the question for a moment, the daughter answered, “It reminds me of my mind. Sometimes, I have negative, rushing and restless thoughts.”

Speaking very slowly and carefully, the mother responded, “Thoughts of all kinds can come and go incessantly, for our thoughts can be quite restless, agitating the mind like the ocean’s waves.”

Nodding in agreement, the daughter lifted her eyes toward her mother and asked, “But how do we calm the waves of our mind?”

Affectionately, the wise mother replied, “You learn to control the wind, by first controlling your thoughts, and thereafter, the ocean of your mind becomes calm. Your life will follow your thoughts, and your thoughts and attitude will affect all aspects of your future.”

With each footstep they took alongside the water’s edge, the daughter listened intently, as the mother gave her an example, “Your thoughts are like a magnet, so, if you complain, more situations may come to you with which to find fault. If you mull over past problems, you may be bringing more difficulties into your present life. And if you think you can’t realize a dream, surely you won’t. Unconstructive thoughts can to lead to negative feelings, which may prompt destructive behavior, and prevent you from achieving your goals, your Godinspired destiny and living a joy-filled life.”

The mother and daughter gazed out into the vast ocean, and the mother tenderly put her arm around her daughter’s shoulder and encouraged, “God intends for you to do amazing things. He has given you a generous heart and extraordinary gifts, and He has wonderful plans for you. There will always be challenges in one form or another. But you can choose the thoughts you think regarding each circumstance and, thus, determine the outcome.”

With that, the wind subsided a bit. The daughter bent down and picked up a seashell. Kneeling on the beach, she drew a line in the sand and said, “Negative thoughts are not going to hold me captive anymore. Today is a new day, and I am going to fill my mind with optimistic, hopeful, uplifting thoughts of love, faith and gratitude, for I want to become all that God intends for me to be.”

Like this daughter, let’s think about how much more we could accomplish if we banish unconstructive thoughts, a limited mind-set, or feelings of in

adequacy. Even one small change a day can make a huge difference. So right now, let us decide to step off the negative thoughtroad, and choose to walk on the thinking-positive path, which will lead us to a better and brighter future.

Years ago, when I started writing my newspaper column, I used a typewriter. First, I would hand-write my thoughts on sheets of paper. Next, I would spread those sheets of paper out on the floor. Then, I’d take each sheet and type the sentiments. In most cases, I would re-type each column about five times to create an 800-word article.

Shortly after I got married, my husband and I bought a home-computer. My husband was proficient with electronics, and he showed me how, with the new technology, to be able to compose my columns much more efficiently. That little change, made a huge difference!

As it can be with your thought-life:

For one minute every morning, practice gratitude and say, “Thank you, God,” for the blessings in your life. “It isn’t what you have or who you are or where you are or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about it.” Dale Carnegie.

During the day, utter, “God is directing my steps,” “I can succeed,” “New opportunities are just around the corner,” and “I will fulfill God’s best plan for my life.” “Don’t limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, remember, you can achieve.” Mary Kay Ash.

At mealtime, “Say Grace.” And in the evening, pray and picture your dreams coming to pass. See yourself healthy, joyful, and contented, and soon, you will move toward that vision. “You are where you are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you.” James Allen.

Your thoughts will make the world what you want it to be. Therefore, open your eyes to the possibilities around you, think great thoughts, and visualize the achievements to come. God has you in the palm of His Hand. And He has remarkable things in store for you, so delight in Him, and He will grant you the desires of your heart.
