Vernon-keith E. Grant, age 67, a longtime Vernon resident passed away peacefully Wednesday September 1, 2021 at his home in Oneida with his loving and caregiving wife and family at his side, after a courageous 2 1/2 year battle with ALS.

Keith was born on September 20, 1953 in Oneida, NY , the son of the late Robert V. and Esther (Toft) Grant. He was a graduate of Vernon Verona Sherrill High School and attended Mohawk Valley Community College.

On August 15, 1981 Keith and Barbara H. Walker were united in marriage in Holy Family Church of Vernon. They shared that sacred vow of love and devotion for forty years.

Keith followed in his father’s footsteps, and for many years, was the owner and operator of Grants True Value Hardware and Building Supply Co. Keith eventually retired from Indium Corp in New Hartford, where he worked in the shipping and receiving dept.

Keith loved listening to the music of The Eagles, watching the NY Yankees, the NY Giants, and SU Basketball. Most of all he enjoyed VVS sporting events, especially his grandson’s wrestling and his granddaugh­ter’s soccer and volleyball games. They always made him proud. The couple loved spending their winters in New Smyrna Beach, Fl before Keith’s health declined.

Surviving are his loving wife, Barbara H. Grant of Oneida, One daughter, Sarah Proper (Steve Albro) of Vernon and Oneida, one son, Kyle Grant (Megan Danaher) of Westmorela­nd, granddaugh­ter Madisyn Proper of Rome, three sisters and their spouses Kathy (Mike) Clarke of Glens Falls, Jeanne (Danny) Kelley of Rome, Diana (Terry) Henke of Hinckley, MN and one brother-in-law Bob (Johnna) Walker of Oneida, along with 13 nieces and nephews.

Keith was predecease­d by his parents and mourned the loss of his grandson Kasey Proper who died in 2013.

In keeping with Keith’s wishes there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on September 12, 2021 at 12:15 p.m. in Maple Grove Cemetery, Rt 5, Vernon, NY for family and close friends. Online condolence­s may be sent to maleckifun­eralhome.com.

The family would like to thank caregivers Camille Herrmann, Samantha Thurston, Lisa Powers and Keith’s brother-in-law Bob, plus his caregivers from Hospice. Because of their loving help Keith was able to remain in his home.
