SV loses to Cincinnatus; more local scores
After a successful season debut against OV, the Stockbridge Valley boys soccer team was looking to continue that momentum. But, unfortunately, SV was picked apart bit by bit. No defensive or offensive consistency. On Tuesday night, the Stockbridge Valley Cougars took a heavy-handed loss against CCL opponent Cincinnatus, falling behind quickly. Cincinnatus was in total control the whole game. And after some quick scores, the Cougars looked utterly deflated. The first half ended with the Lions scoring six goals. Perversely, the second half was just as unsatisfactory as the first for the Cougars, allowing five more goals. Braden Renner was still able to secure some saves, 11 to be precise, but Cason Stafford netted four goals and four assists for the Lions, while Scott Schuyler added three goals and three assists to the effort. Kooper Vosberg was awarded the clean sheet as he stopped three shots, including a penalty kick from Tyler Fisher.
“We played timidly against a very talented team.” Stockbridge Valley head coach Jay Lehmann said. “This is what
happens when you play timid against that sort of skill. Hopefully, we can pick ourselves up, learn from the experience, and move on to the next game. We know where we need to get to now. Our goal will be to push ourselves to get there.”
Stockbridge Valley looks to bounce back when they take on Waterville on Friday.
