VERNON, VERONA, SHERRILL, N.Y.

» The 2021-2022 school year officially began for Vernon Verona Sherrill (VVS) Central School District students on Tuesday, Sept. 7.

“We are thrilled to welcome our students back to school this year for in-person instruction, five days a week,” said Martha Group, Superintendent. “Over the summer we had a taste of what was to come through our numerous summer programs. Today, we experienced the joyous sounds of students learning and engaging with our faculty and staff.”

Many students are excited about getting to experience many of the routines and opportunities that may have been missing the past eighteen months. From eating lunch together in the cafeteria to extracurricular activities, to seeing each other five full days a week, this year promises a return to the normalcy that had been missing, officials wrote in a VVS press release.

“First-period chorus is the best!” said senior Hayley Moore, “Being back this year, it already feels like it’s going to be easier to learn.”

In addition to welcoming students back to campus, VVS looks forward to welcoming families and the community to Friday night football games, a drive-up flu shot clinic on October 6, and more inperson experiences.

“VVS is a great place to work, to learn, and to live because of the wonderful families and community members that call this place home,” said Group. “As our year gets underway, we are eager to find more ways to reconnect and re-establish the positive and supportive relationships we have enjoyed throughout the years.”
