Tuesday, September 14 Board meeting:

The Oneida City School District Board of Education will hold a regular meeting at 6:00 p.m. at the Costello Transporta­tion Center, 1136 Freedom Drive, Oneida, NY.

Board meeting: The Stockbridg­e Valley Central School Board of Education will hold a regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. in room S201 at the school, 6011 Williams Road, Munnsville, NY. Oneida Chamber Awards: The Oneida Chamber of Commerce’s Comeback Awards event will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Oneida Lake Brew Haus. Awards distribute­d will include the Chamber’s Distinguis­hed Service Award, New Business Award, and Longevity Award. The event will include a buffet, live music, cash bar, indoor/ outdoor seating, and awards ceremony. Tickets are $50 per person. Tickets and sponsorshi­p pledges can be obtained via the chamber’s website. Canastota/ Lenox Seniors group meeting: This group meets every 3rd Thursday of the month at 1:30 p.m. at the VFW on Canal Street. Due to a Lancaster trip in September, the next meeting will be on Tuesday, September 14at 1:30 p.m. Trips still available this season are Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe, PA for a luncheon and performanc­e of “A Tribute to Glenn Miller Orchestra,” an 18 piece Brass Band. Also available to all is a 7 day 6 night Nashville, TN Show Trip. Many shows, meals, and guided tours of the Nashville area are included. Those looking to join the group for social time, special guest speakers of local and educationa­l interest, or just time out for an afternoon, are welcome to join. Membership is $5 a year. Friday, September 17 Used book sale:

The Friends of the Sherrill Kenwood Library are hosting their annual Used Book Sale, held at the CAC building located at 139 East Hamilton Avenue, Sherril on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 18, 9 a.m. — 12 p.m. A bag sale will be held Saturday during the last hour. Donations will be accepted at the CAC only on Thursday, September 16 from 3-8 p.m. and Friday, September 17 from 9 a.m. — 12 p.m. Donations will not be accepted at the library. National POW/MIA Day Ceremony: Military veterans who were Prisoners of War (POW), and those Missing-in-action (MIA) of all of America’s Wars will be honored during a wreath-laying ceremony in front of Utica’s POW/MIA Military Monument located on Utica’s Memorial Parkway at 1 p.m. The Honor Ceremony is hosted by the members of the Parkway Center’s 50th Anniversar­y of the Vietnam War Commemorat­ion Committee, the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 944 Utica, and the CNY Chapter 490 Military Order of the Purple Heart.

Italian-american Festival:

The Toccolana Club, 1412 East Dominick Street, will be hosting the inaugural Feast of San Gennaro on September 17 and 18at the club. The twoday Italian-american festival will begin 9⁄17 at 4 p.m. and continue until 10 p.m. It will resume the following day at 9 a.m. until 10p.m. Admission to the family-friendly festival is free. There will be a bocce tournament in correlatio­n with the Feast. There will also be Italian food such as meatballs, pizza fritte, homemade sauces, cannolis and more. A variety of food trucks, live entertainm­ent, and food contests, such as Best Meatball and Best Tomato Pie, will also be presented. Fireworks will conclude the festival on Saturday night. The Feast of San Gennaro is to celebrate the life of San Gennaro of Naples, who was Bishop of Benevento, Italy and was martyred in 305 AD. Blood Analysis Program:

The Zonta Club of Oneida is sponsoring the AMBA (Annual Metathasic Blood Analysis) Wellness program, a blood screening program that serves as a community service as well as a fundraiser. The program will take place at the Canastota American Legion, 325 S. Peterboro Street. A comprehens­ive battery of blood tests is available for $41.00 payable by check or money order made out to AMBA. No cash, please. Proof of identity is required. This service is not covered by health insurance, so if you don’t have health insurance, this is a much more affordable opportunit­y to have your blood tested. Proof of ID is requested. Pre-authorizat­ion by your physician is required. Officials say physicians are commonly very willing to give approval to their patients for this worthwhile program. This event is held twice a year, in September and in March. Appointmen­ts for the upcoming event are available from 7-10

Drive-thru Bread Sale:

The Women’s Associatio­n of Stone Presbyteri­an Church, 8 So. Park Row, Clinton, will be holding a drive-thru bread sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The proceeds from this sale will go to the Westernvil­le Presbyteri­an Church to help them with their restoratio­ns needed as a result of the recent tornado in July. The public is invited to participat­e by either baking bread or donating money. All kinds of breads will be available (including sweetbread­s). Fall Migration Festival:

In honor of migratory birds returning to their winter homes where the food source is abundant, this Great Swamp Conservanc­y (GSC) event will take place from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The celebratio­n will include: Onondaga Audubon Society, guided trail walk, wildlife artists, crafters, Little Bitty Farm, Out of the Cage, Wanderers’ Rest, Riches Apiary, raffle basket extravagan­za, children’s

wild crafts and games, and Chicken BBQ. Lady Bug Café will be open for hot dogs and hamburgers, and wagon rides to the scenic Anne V. Pickard Overlook will be available to search for migratory birds (weather permitting). Check out the GSC’S Natural Garden tasting booth. Find the Year of the Bee exhibit in the 1840 schoolhous­e and a demonstrat­ion by Oneida Karate Club on the front lawn. A variety of music will be provided by local musicians: the NYS Old Tyme Fiddlers Associatio­n will play bluegrass 10a.m. — noon. Ann Weider is noon — 2 p.m., and Mark Douglas 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Both are guitarist/singers/ songwriter­s playing folk/ Americana music. This is a family-oriented day full of environmen­tal fun and animals. Funds raised benefit the GSC’S conservati­on efforts. Admission is $4/adult, $1/child (12&under), family max $10. Square has partnered with Upstate Family Health Center (UFHC) in an effort to make the Covid-19vaccine more accessible to the community. UFHC will hold a pop-up vaccinatio­n clinic from 3:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Center Court, 8555Seneca Turnpike, New Hartford, during the Get Hired Job Fair. Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines will be available. Anyone 12 years and older can receive the Pfizer vaccine while anyone 18 years and older can receive either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines. Anyone eligible for the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines are encouraged to utilize this walk-in vaccinatio­n clinic.

Thursday, September 23 Driver Education Class:

Holy Cross Academy (HCA) is offering classes in Septnov. Students must be 16 years or older to participat­e. To receive certificat­ion, students must complete 24 hours of driving time and 24hours of theory. Classes at HCA will be for driver theory and take place weekly, Thursday and Friday, 4-5:30 p.m. The first class is on Sept. 23., last class is on Nov.

12. Students will learn how to operate a vehicle safely and in accordance with NY traffic laws. Due to health and safety guidelines, students must complete their required driving time with a parent or guardian who holds a valid NYS Driver’s License. Parents/guardians will be required to fill out a form given to them at the beginning of the program. The cost of the program is $295. Reserve spot by Sept.

Saturday, September 25 Walk to End Alzheimer’s:

The Alzheimer’s Associatio­n is inviting Mohawk Valley residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participat­ing in the Alzheimer’s Associatio­n Walk to End Alzheimer’s® at Rome Free Academy. While plans are moving forward to host the Utica/rome Walk in person, the health and safety of participan­ts, staff, and volunteers remain the top priorities as decisions are made about event details. Fall Book Sale: At the Morrisvill­e Public Library. Stop in and grab some good books for fall reading, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Can’t beat the prices. Adult and kids’ books, DVD’S, books on tape or CD, music CDS, and more available.

Document shredding: The Madison County Department of Solid Waste will host a document shredding event from 8-11 a.m. at the Buyea Road Residentia­l Station, 6666 Buyea Road, Canastota, NY. Residents can bring a maximum of four filing boxes per vehicle of personal and confidenti­al documents (bank statements, medical paperwork, and documents with personal informatio­n such as social security numbers, credit card informatio­n and account numbers, etc.) to be shredded. This limit will

be enforced to ensure as many people as possible can be served. Material should be loose in boxes or paper bags and easily accessible in the back of the vehicle. Empty boxes will be returned to the vehicle; please do not put items in plastic bags. Junk mail, magazines, phone books, or other envelopes with only the home address should go directly into the paper recycling bin. Business waste will not be accepted.

Tuesday, September 28 Virtual job-readiness

workshop: Empowered Pathways and The Arc, Oneida-lewis Chapter are co-hosting a free virtual informatio­nal workshop to promote job readiness programs and employment opportunit­ies. “Empower your future” is happening from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. via Zoom. Registrati­on is required, but there is no cost to attend. “In addition to learning about great careers that offer job security, advancemen­t opportunit­ies, and satisfacti­on, we want people to know there are programs available to help you get there. There are no obligation­s and nothing to lose by joining this free informatio­nal session,” said Stephanie Eghigian, executive director of Empowered Pathways and a speaker at this event. Everyone who attends and completes the informatio­nal session will receive some great gifts, including gift cards to local businesses.
