Hop houses? Hop tableware? Learn about hop history during the 25th Annual Madison County Hop Fest

ONEIDA, N.Y. » Those who love beer, hops, and history will enjoy the programs provided for the Madison County Hop Fest taking place September 17-18.

The Madison County Hop Fest celebrates the past, present, and prosperous future of the hop industry in Madison County and throughout NYS. Along with ticket-required events like beer sampling on Saturday (9/18) and a paired beer dinner on Friday (9/17, ticket sales are closed), available programs free to the public include hop culture in NYS, home brewing demonstrat­ions, exhibits on the history of hops, vendors selling hop-related merchandis­e, hop farmers, beer clubs, food trucks, raffle, live music, and the crowning of Hop King 2021.

In its 25th year, the hop fest will include the following programs at the Oneida Public Library on September 18:

10:30 a.m. — Film: “When Hop Was King” in Central New York

11 a.m. — Hop House Survey presented by Al Bullard

11:30 a.m. — Historic Barn Tax Credit by NYS Senator Rachel May, NYS Barn Coalition, Preservati­on Assoc CY

12:30 p.m. — Madison County Hop Houses by Carl Stearns

1 p.m. Hop Houses in Herkimer, Montgomery, Oneida, Onondaga, Otsego, and Schoharie by Al Bullard

2 p.m. — Hop Collection­s: From Dinnerware to Tools by Al Bullard and Dot Willsey

The end of this line of programs will be followed by a Q&A with Bullard,

Stearns, and Willsey at 3:30 p.m.

The programs are free to the public.

Right next door at the

Madison County Historical Society, the hop fest will hold its craft beer sampling from 2 — 5:30 p.m. with hop exhibits, hop shop, exhibitors, and food trucks at 435 Main Street, Oneida. Participan­ts must be 21+ years of age to sample the craft beer at the hop fest.

Proof of COVID-19 vaccinatio­n is required for all events.
