Tuesday, September 21 Vaccine clinic: Sangertown Square has partnered with Upstate Family Health Center (UFHC) in an effort to make the COVID-19 vaccine more accessible to the community. UFHC will hold a pop-up
vaccination clinic from 3:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Center Court, 8555 Seneca Turnpike, New Hartford, during the Get Hired Job Fair. Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines will be available. Anyone 12 years and older can receive the Pfizer vaccine while anyone 18 years and older can receive either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines. Anyone eligible for the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines are encouraged to utilize this walk-in vaccination clinic.
Thursday, September 23 Rummage sale:
At the Vernon United Methodist Church, Route 5, Vernon, there will be a Rummage and Book Sale on Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sept. 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a bag sale at 11 a.m.
Driver Education Class: Holy Cross Academy (HCA) is offering classes in Septnov. Students must be 16 years or older to participate. To receive certification, students must complete 24 hours of driving time and 24 hours of theory. Classes at HCA will be for driver theory and take place weekly, Thursday and Friday, 4-5:30 p.m. The first class is on Sept. 23., last class is on Nov. 12. Students will learn how to operate a vehicle safely and in accordance with NY traffic laws. Due to health and safety guidelines, students must complete their required driving time with a parent or guardian who holds a valid NYS Driver’s License. Parents/guardians will be required to fill out a form given to them at the beginning of the program. The cost of the program is $295. Reserve spot by Sept. 21. This month’s event will take place 5-7 p.m. at the Hampton Inn, Verona. There will be door prizes and a 50⁄50 raffle. Bring cash. This is an informal, fun networking opportunity for local businesses to get to know one another and build relationships. Saturday, September 25 Walk to End Alzheimer’s:
The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Mohawk Valley residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® at Rome Free Academy. While plans are moving forward to host the Utica/rome Walk in person, the health and safety of participants, staff, and volunteers remain the top priorities as decisions are made about event details. Fall Book Sale: At the Morrisville Public Library. Stop in and grab some good books for fall reading, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Can’t beat the prices. Adult and kids’ books, DVD’S, books on tape or CD, music CDS, and more available.
Document shredding: The Madison County Department of Solid Waste will host a document shredding event from 8-11 a.m. at the Buyea Road Residential Station, 6666 Buyea Road, Canastota, NY. Residents can bring a maximum of four filing boxes per vehicle of personal and confidential documents (bank statements, medical paperwork, and documents with personal information such as social security numbers, credit card information and account numbers, etc.) to be shredded. This limit will be enforced to ensure as many people as possible can be served. Material should be loose in boxes or paper bags and easily accessible in the back of the vehicle. Empty boxes will be returned to the vehicle; please do not put items in plastic bags. Junk mail, magazines, phone books, or other envelopes with only the home address should go directly into the paper recycling bin. Business waste will not be accepted. Oneida County Freedom Trail discussion: Colgate University Intern Ashley Tourtelot developed the newest exhibition at the Oneida County History
Center (OCHC) which focuses on the Underground Railroad in the area. Social, political, and economic factors made the route to freedom possible. Ashley will discuss how abolitionist sentiments emerged and grew in central New York while also spotlighting a few of Utica’s own developments in the freedom struggle, including the Utica Riot, Utica Rescue, and Post Avenue settlements. This program starts at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the OCHC gallery. The event is free and open to all. Masks are required. This program will be recorded and available on the OCHC Youtube channel.
Wall of Distinction Dinner: The Oneida City School District Foundation will be holding the 2021 Wall of Distinction Induction Dinner at Theodore’s Restaurant, Rt. 5, Canastota, beginning at 6 p.m. The inductees being honored are Anne Gardulski, Ph. D, OHS Class of 1973; Donald W. Hudson, OHS Class of 1974; David T. Clancy, OCSD Principal 1960 — 1991; Erik Blowers, OHS Class of 1983; Frank Perretta, OHS Class of 1961; and Eric “Rick” Moyer, OHS Class of 1957. Individual tickets are $30 and may be reserved by contacting Lori Cimpi (315-361-6072). Checks may be made out to the OCSD Foundation and mailed to her attention at the Costello Transportation Center, 1136 Freedom Dr., Oneida, NY, 13421. Tuesday, September 28 Virtual job-readiness workshop:
Empowered Pathways and The Arc, Oneida-lewis Chapter are co-hosting a free virtual informational workshop to promote job readiness programs and employment opportunities. “Empower your future” is happening from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. via Zoom. Registration is required, but there is no cost to attend. “In addition to learning about great careers that offer job security, advancement opportunities, and satisfaction, we want people to know there are programs available to help you get there. There are no obligations and nothing to lose by joining this free informational session,” said Stephanie
Eghigian, executive director of Empowered Pathways and a speaker at this event. Wednesday, September 29 Career Fair:
Rome Health will host a career fair 2 to 5 p.m. at the hospital, 1500 N. James St., where applicants can interview for open clinical and nonclinical positions. Candidates who are hired for open positions will have the opportunity to begin the employment process at the fair, including completing paperwork, drug screen, and physical. With expedited processing, new hires will be ready to start their careers with employee orientation Monday, Oct. 11. Several entry level positions are available in food service, patient registration, building services, and other support areas. Minimum starting wage is $14 per hour. Friday, October 1 18th Annual Pumpkin Coloring Contest:
Stop into the Morrisville Public Library and pick up your pumpkin coloring contest entry starting Friday, October 1. The contest is open to all kids, from a young age up to the 6th grade. Participants have until Saturday, October 23 at 1 p.m. to turn in their creations for judging. Winners will be notified on Thursday, October 28. (Please note: Judgers will not accept any entries left at the library after 1 p.m. on Saturday 10⁄23. All entries must be brought inside and not left in the book drop.)

Monday, October 4 YMCA Open House: The Rome and Oneida YMCAS invite residents to visit anytime during the week of October 4 -11 to try classes, programs, and equipment. If you try the Y during Open House Week and join the following week, the joining fee will be waived, a potential savings of $75. You must have a valid photo ID in order to enter the facility which will remain with the Y until you leave.
