FELONY CRIMES GAP
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the number of arrests in the U.S. has seen a 41% decline since 1998, a trend that is consistent among Blacks and Whites. In 2019, Blacks accounted for 26.4% of all arrests (2,667,010), and Whites accounted for 69.5% (7,014,550). Studies suggest that changes in drug use and enforcement and sex offenders, who are disproportionately White, resulted in the decline of arrests across the country and contributed to
the gap closing.
