18th Annual Pumpkin Coloring Contest: Stop into the Morrisvill­e Public Library and pick up your pumpkin coloring contest entry starting Friday, October 1.

The contest is open to all kids, from a young age up to the 6th grade. Participan­ts have until Saturday, October 23at 1p.m. to turn in their creations for judging. Winners will be notified on Thursday, October 28. (Please note: Judgers will not accept any entries left at the library after 1 p.m. on Saturday 10⁄23. All entries must be brought inside and not left in the book drop.)

Legal services: Legal Services of Central New York has attorneys who travel to Oneida on Thursdays to provide free advice, informatio­n, and referrals for civil (non-criminal) legal issues. The hours of this clinic are changing beginning in October. It will be held in the Gorman Foundation Community Center, 1081Norths­ide Shopping Center from 10 a.m. to 12noon every Thursday. 1st Annual Oneida Fall Fest: Many free events, like pumpkin racing, touch-a-truck, and face painting, plus food/drinks/des

serts for purchase. Live music performed by Oneida-based 4piece band “One Man. The Band” & friends. Bounce houses donated by Airtime Inflatable­s. Event runs from 12-4p.m. behind the Oneida Commons.

Pasta Dinner: The Canastota Italian Heritage Committee and the Tri-valley Trail Riders Snowmobile Club will be holding a pasta dinner fundraiser at the Canastota VFW, 3835Canal Road, Canastota, from 4:30p.m. until gone. Adult dinners age 12 and above are $9. Senior Citizens 60 and above are $8. Children are $5, and kids under five are free. Meal includes penne pasta covered in homemade tomato sauce, meatballs or sausage, chef salad, bread & butter, and a beverage. Take-outs are available. There will also be basket raffles to benefit the Canastota Italian Heritage Festival being held on Canal Street in Canastota on Saturday, August 13, 2022. Concert: Arts at the Palace, in Hamilton, is pleased to announce E.S.P. Modern Jazz Group will perform live at the Palace Theater at 7p.m. E.S.P. is a high-energy, contempora­ry jazz group featuring original music. Their recordings are part jazz, part funk, and part world music. Tickets are $15. Buy them at artatthepa­lace.org. Potpourris workshop: The Great Swamp Conservanc­y of Canastota (GSC) will be holding a workshop at 10 a.m. where participan­ts will learn how to make their own natural potpourris for Fall and the holiday season. All supplies will be provided. Crafters can awaken their senses and become immersed in everything that represents fall with scents that will last for months. Guests will create 2 potpourris to make and take home. The instructor will share many ideas about this hobby including which scents can be utilized throughout the holiday season. Civil War reenactmen­t: Take a trip back to the Civil War Days with a live-action display from the 157th New York State Volunteers from 10a.m. to 4:00p.m. at Chittenang­o Landing Canal Boat Museum. This event is a reschedule from late August when the museum found itself flooded out. Union and Confederat­e characters will bring history alive for you with drills and period displays. Enjoy live demonstrat­ions from the working blacksmith shop, basket-making demonstrat­ions, crafts, and dancing. Enjoy food, beverages, and live music from One Man Band Denniss Mcguire throughout the day. Admission for this special event will be $6for adults, $5for senior citizens and veterans, and $3for children 12 and under.

YMCA Open House: The Rome and Oneida YMCAS invite residents to visit anytime during the week of October 4-11 to try classes, programs, and equipment. If you try the Y during Open House Week and join the following week, the joining fee will be waived, a potential savings of $75. You must have a valid photo ID in order to enter the facility which will remain with the Y until you leave. October Book Discussion: Read “The Vanishing Half” by Brit Bennett and post your thoughts on the Morrisvill­e Public Library’s Facebook event from October 18-31, 2021. Copies can be picked up starting Monday, October 4at the library.

Family Fun Activity Challenge: join the Rome YMCA’S 3-week challenge, designed to get families engaged in physical and fun activities as the weather starts to change. Activities for the specific week will be posted on the Y’s Facebook page and website. Activities are also listed on family passports. Activities include Zumba, archery, swimming, boot camp, yoga, interactiv­e room, badminton, jump rope, pickleball, and crafts. Challenge runs October 4-23. A family member must call the Rome Y, (315) 336-3500to register for a spot for each activity. Passports can be picked up at the membership desk. Passports must be stamped for each day your family attends. Stamp at least 15out of the 18days to be entered in a raffle to win a free 1-year Family Membership.

Village Board meeting: The October meeting of the Oneida Castle Village Board has been postponed until October 5, 2021. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. following a public hearing on the Marijuana Law at 6:30p.m. The public is invited to attend. ADK Mt. Club meeting: The Iroquois Chapter of the Adirondack Mt Club will have their next meeting in person at 7p.m. at the First Baptist Church of New Hartford (7Oxford Rd). The program speaker will be Mark Perrin who will highlight many landmarks of Colorado which he recently visited. All are welcome to attend.

Garden Club: The Sherrill Garden Club will hold its next meeting at 6 p.m. in the conference room of the Sherrill-kenwood Library, 543Sherril­l Road, Sherrill, NY. The business meeting will review the Mums/bake Sale that took place on September 11and plan future meetings. The program for the evening is looking back to the activities the Sherrill Garden Club has pursued during the past ten years through photos taken by members. Refreshmen­ts will be served. The meeting is open to the public and new members are very welcome. Wednesday, October 6 Classics with Chelle: Join Morrisvill­e Public Library Manager Michelle Rounds on Wednesday evenings at 7:00p.m through October 13as she reads on Facebook Live, “James and the Giant Peach” by Roald Dahl. Fun for kids and adults. It will be live on Facebook until October 31, 2021, when it will be removed.

Canal History talk: At 6:30 p.m. the Canastota Public Library will host a special Canalside Talk entitled “Canal Water-whiskey & Temperance.” At about the time the Erie Canal was complete, the Temperance Movement swept across New York State, especially in what was called the Burned-over District, which included Madison County. Joe Digiorgio of the Canal Town Museum will present the program showing glass slides about the sins of “demon spirits” as seen through the lens of a Magic Lantern of the 19th century. This is a story of how whiskey helped build the Erie Canal and also influenced the Temperance Movement. There is no charge for this event. For more informatio­n please call (315) 697-7030.
