Oneida drops to 2-2 with a loss to New Hartford

Oneida was looking for a bounce-back game after coming just short of taking down Camden. In front of a rambunctious home crowd, the Blue and Orange were ready for battle against the Spartans. But, unfortunately, Oneida could not stop that mighty New Hartford offense and wasn’t strong enough to pick up the slack.

New Hartford came out strong with a 63 yard TD on the first play of the game. Definitely not the way Oneida was looking to start the game. But Oneida knows how to fight from underneath.

Sadly, Oneida’s opening drive was futile, not being able to gain any positive yards. Then, with a penalty in the mix, Oneida was forced to punt. And the Spartans even blocked the punt, which gave New Hartford excellent field possession to start the next drive.

This time, New Hartford started with another great run for 35 yards up to the 2-yard line. The Spartans were running all over the Blue and Or

ange to start the game.

Oneida was able to stop the scoring effort a couple of times but allowed New Hartford to cross the plane for another score. Thus, New Hartford was able to get a 14-0 in the early stages of this contest.

The next drive had a similar result to the first, as Oneida was again forced to punt.

The Blue and Orange defense was able to stop New Hartford from reaching the end zone this time around and looked to turn their fortunes on the next drive.

Braedon Williams produced a solid 15-yard run for the Blue and Orange that kept the scoring hopes for Oneida alive, but New Hartford was able to force them to make a choice on 4th down. But Oneida overcame that obstacle when Carinci Bryson completed a pass to Baker Avery that led Oneida to the 2-yard line. This led to a touchdown rush from Relyea Pierce. Oneida converted the PAT and decreased the deficit to 7-14.

NH was forced to punt, and with a shanked kick, Oneida started at the 35.

Multiple runs kept Oneida’s scoring admirations alive. Finally, Williams was able to squeak into the endzone for the touchdown. Oneida has shaken off the rust of the rough 1st quarter start. After the successful PAT, Oneida has tied the game 14-14.

Neither team would be able to do anything to shift the tide, so we go into halftime with a tie-ball game.

The second half would prove to be a disastrous one for the Blue and Orange. The Spartans started the second half with another TD run, reclaiming the lead. Unfortunately, and sadly for Oneida, they would let New Hartford keep the lead and extend it. The Blue and Orange were pretty stagnated on the offensive side of the ball. Multiple drives of minor to no yards to try and regain the lead. After a turnover on downs, New Hartford scored another touchdown, which would be the beginning of the end for Oneida.

The Blue and Orange forced a fumble but would fail to capitalize, giving the ball back to the Spartans. New Hartford would run out the clock and grab the win over Oneida.

With this loss, Oneida falls to 2-2, making two losses in a row. Their next contest is against VVS.
