Concert: Monk Rowe and the Five Families is performing live at the Palace Theater in Hamiton at 7:00p.m. The Five Families Ensemble, directed by Monk Rowe, stretches the boundaries of the traditional chamber ensemble by combining sounds from each of the four instrument groups (brass, woodwinds, percussion, and strings) with a fifth contribution from the human voice. Members of the Five Families are Tom Mcgrath (percussion); Nick Fields (trumpet, baritone horn & vocals); Monk Rowe (woodwinds and keyboards); Kristen Kopf (cello); and Liz Simchik (violin & vocals). Their repertoire is arranged specifically for the group and ranges from Beethoven to Brubeck to the Blues, as well as original compositions. Tickets are $15. Buy them at artsatthepalace.org. Halloween Bash: At the Kallet Theater in Oneida from 7p.m. — 10p.m. there will be a FREE Halloween Bash with 3 live bands: Love Bone, The 168Rhythm Section, and Before August. Visit the Oneida Parks and Rec Department on Facebook for more information. Halloween Fun Days: On October 23& 24from 11a.m.- 3p.m., the Great Swamp Conservancy, 8375 N. Main St., Canastota, will host non-scary Halloween Fun Days for children and adults. There are interactive themed rooms, Halloween games, make-n-take crafts, gator rides (weather permitting), a mummy contest (wrap someone you love like a mummy-all materials provided), Drew the Magician on Sunday at 1p.m., and a pumpkin decorating contest (drop off your pumpkin by Oct 22, 4 p.m. to be voted on by the public at the event.) Halloween portraits of families or individuals will be taken by the Swamp Snappers Camera Club (5x 7) to catch that special memory at a very affordable price. Lady Bug Cafe will be serving up hot dogs and hamburgers and special Halloween baked goods. Come dressed in your Halloween costume and receive a small prize.
