Utica Women Curlers Honored with State Resolution

The New York State Senate and Assembly passed a Legislativ­e Resolution in March of 2022 congratula­ting the Utica Curling Team upon the occasion of capturing the 2022 United States Women’s Curling Associatio­n (USWCA) National Championsh­ip. The Resolution was sponsored by Senator Joesph Griffo and Assembly woman Marianne Buttenscho­n.

Utica Curling Team, which was led by skip Anne Stuhlman and included Liz Kaido, Melissa Foote and Erlene Puleo who subbed for the injured Audrey Foote. The team defeated Blackhawk Curling Club 10-6 to win Utica’s first USWCA Championsh­ip since 1967. The team’s victory which occurred on Sunday, February 27 at the Utica Curling Club earning the Event Trophy, a silver plated punch bowl sponsored by the Wauwatosa Granites Curling Club of Wisconsin.

The USWCA has more than 85 member clubs and almost 5,000 individual members with 32 teams from 12 states competing in 73rd year of the tournament. The Resolution further noted the dedication, determinat­ion and teamwork in providing a lasting contributi­on to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of the Utica Curling Club. tion was presented to each team member by Assembly woman Marianne Buttenscho­n at UCC on Monday, April 4, 2022.
