Oneida takes down Red Devils in both softball and baseball

After starting the year off with a 2-3 record, Oneida softball has been on a roll. They would proceed to go on a huge 8 game winning streak. However, the streak did come to an end against Victor when Oneida took a trip to play in the Mudville tournament but got back in the win column against rival Vernon-veronasherrill, beating them 8-2.

Kaylin Curro went 1-3 with 2 RBI, while her teammate Julianna Caroli went 2-4 with 2 RBI. Kerrigan Crysler was in the circle for Oneida. Crysler threw 7 innings and secured 12 strikeouts in the win for the blue and orange.

For the Red Devils, they fall to 1-10 on the year. Kendal Lehnen and Grace Maranville were the two Devils that knocked in the runs for V.V.S. Sadly, they were not enough to get the job done.

Just a few miles down the road at V.V.S. High School, Oneida baseball took home the 7-5 win over the Red Devils. Oneida went on a dry spell

going 1-5 in their last 6 games, but seems to have found their groove back with this win over V.V.S. Due to the previous few weeks, Oneida has fallen a bit behind to win the Trivalley title but will still be a force to reckon with in sectional play.

Crunch topped by Rocket, 3-2, in Game 5 From Megan Cahill

The Syracuse Crunch were topped by the Laval Rocket, 3-2, in overtime in Game 5 tonight at the Upstate Medical University Arena.

The loss eliminates the Crunch from the postseason as Laval takes the bestof-five series, 3-2.

Goaltender Max Lagace turned aside 33-of-36 shots in net for the Crunch. Cayden Primeau stopped 32-of-34 between the pipes for the Rocket. Syracuse was unable to convert on one power play opportunity, while Laval went 1-for-2.

The Crunch opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal at the 15:31 mark of the first period. Anthony Richard picked off a pass near the blue line, skated down the ice, and beat Primeau with a backhander.

Syracuse doubled their lead at the 7:16 mark of the middle frame. After Alex Barre-boulet threw the puck towards the net, Primeau poked it away, but the puck rebounded off Ryan Jones and into the net.

The Rocket stole one back with a power-play goal four minutes later when Alex Belzile tipped Louie Belpedio’s rightpoint shot.

With just 38 seconds remaining in the game, Cédric Paquette potted the equalizer and forced overtime. Gabriel Bourque then sent home the game-winner at the 10:13 mark of the extra frame to give Laval the series win.
