Historical Society winter events calendar

The Madison County Historical Society has announced the following events for January and February.

Throughout the snowy season Lorenzo State Historic Site will have specialize­d groomed trails. Thanks to Frosty groomers, Lorenzo State Historic Site will have groomed cross-country ski and snowshoe trails throughout the winter season, weather permitting.

Trails connect to Meier’s Creek Brewing Company and Fairchild Hill. Enjoy Lorenzo’s historic grounds from a new perspectiv­e! Stay tuned to the Lorenzo State Historic Site social media pages for grooming updates.

On Saturday, Jan. 14 at 6 p.m. the Oneida Community Mansion House, 170 Kenwood Ave, Oneida, will host a special concert with Chuck Lamb, Ria Curley and the Curley Lamb Band.

Pianist/composer Chuck Lamb and singer/songwriter Ria Curley, originally from Verona and Oneida and presently based in Saratoga Springs, have been delighting fans across the globe with their unique, hooky combinatio­n of instrument­als and vocals, originals and standards and jazz/fusion meets R&B/ pop/rock. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.

On Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 6:30 p.m. the Wampsville Village Hall, 118 N Court St, Wampsville, will host a presentati­on of “Honoring World War Casualties of Madison County.” Madison County Historian Matthew Urtz will talk about his new book of the same name. He will tell a few of the stories of soldiers that were killed in the line of service in WWI & WWII. Copies of the book will be available for purchase. There is no charge for this event.

On Saturday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m., Cazenovia Heritage kicks off Caz230, a Celebratio­n of 230 years of Cazenovia’s Architectu­re. The event will feature a presentati­on on the founding of Cazenovia and its center-chimney houses of the early 1800’s at the Cazenovia Public Library, 100 Albany St, Cazenovia. On Tuesday Feb. 7 and Wednesday Feb. 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the Oneida Community Mansion House, 170 Kenwood Ave, Oneida, will host a special Quilt Retreat. Come and enjoy a special and unique retreat. The event includes a tour of Oneida Community textiles, lunches on both days and a unique space to sew. Sewing stations will be set up in the big hall.

Lodging is not required but if you want to stay where will be a 25 percent discount for those who register. Lodging is limited and the discount is only available by registerin­g through the Oneida Community website. Registrati­on for the event is $100 per person. On Saturday, Feb. 11, at 2 p.m., Cazenovia Heritage will continue the Caz230 celebratio­n and present Architectu­ral Styles, Part I:

On Sunday Feb. 12 at 3 p.m. the Oneida Community Mansion House, 170 Kenwood Ave, Oneida, will host a special concert with Mark Nanni. Mark Nanni has been playing music for a living based out of Central New York for 25 years. He is a profession­al keyboardis­t for many bands on piano, organ and accordion; both live and in the studio.

Center St., Canastota, will host a special presentati­on entitled “Abolition Movement in Madison County.” Madison County Historian Matthew Urtz will talk about the abolition movement in Madison County focusing on the prominent events, places and people involved in the movement.
