ACS welcomes new Family Advocate

U.S. Army Garrison Yuma Proving Ground welcomed a new family advocate to the team.

Mariah Boykin stepped into the role of Family Advocacy Program (FAP) Manager in late March. She will provide valuable resources to the YPG community.

Prior to coming to YPG, Boykin worked at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Camp Humphreys in Korea, and in Germany, all as a FAP.

She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work and said, “I joke that I have been someone’s social worker since 1998.” Adding, “I love the profession, I am a social worker through and through.”

As a family advocate her focus is on prevention and education, specifical­ly for military family services, domestic violence, child behavior, relationsh­ip problems, and advocacy.

The FAP provides parenting classes and other services for those dealing with family turmoil.

Other programs under the FAP umbrella:

The New Family Support Program includes services for those who are newly pregnant or have recently given birth.

The Victim Advocacy Program provides services for victims of domestic violence.

The Exceptiona­l Family Member Program provides resources for children with special needs.

Boykin’s said of her new role at YPG, “I think my job as a FAP Manager is definitely customer service, to help the local community connect with resources, and to get creative in solving any kind of problem. I am very passionate about children, about protecting them and making sure they have everything they need to thrive and grow.”

The FAP Manager is located on the Howard Cantonment in building 301 and is available from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or by calling 928-328-3224.
