Supporting the Army’s Antiterrorism Program

- By Robert Barocio

The U.S. Army’s Antiterrorism Program is a robust initiative designed to protect the nation’s military personnel and assets from the evolving landscape of global terrorism. The success of this program relies heavily on the active participation of Army employees, including civilians, contractors, Soldiers, and their Families.

Understanding the threat landscape

The first step in supporting the antiterrorism program is understanding the threat landscape. The adversaries are constantly using technology

nd to identify vulnerabilities. Employees should stay informed about the current threats and the evolving tactics of terrorists.

Active participation in training and awareness programs

Training, education, and awareness are key elements in the service’s efforts to prevent terrorism. The Army’s iWATCH program includes antiterrorism awareness resources to help service members and their families identify and report potential activity. Employees are encouraged to participate in these programs and apply the knowledge both on duty and off duty.

Reporting suspicious activities

The Army has several suspicious activity reporting programs and systems, such as iWATCH Army, iSALUTE, and eGuardian. Employees can support the antiterrorism program by reporting any suspicious activities or behaviors they observe.

Adherence to force protection conditions

The Force Protection Condition (FPCON) system is a set of security measures that form the foundation of all antiterrorism plans. Employees should understand the different FPCON levels and adhere to the security measures associated with each level.

Continuous learning and skill Enhancement

DOD and contractor personnel can support the antiterrorism program by taking additional training and accessing antiterrorism/force protection resources to increase and refresh their knowledge.

Every Army employee plays a crucial role in supporting the Army’s Antiterrorism Program. By staying informed, actively participating in training and awareness programs, reporting suspicious activities, adhering to FPCON levels, and continuously enhancing their skills, employees can contribute significantly to the success of the program and the safety of the nation.
