MENU

Subculture Coffee is best known for java and microbrews, but the coffee shop also serves a variety of salads, sandwiches and smoothies, along with granola and acai bowls. The focus is on healthy fare, and most items cost less than $10. A $12.50 cheese board is the priciest plate. The beer tap is located on the opposite side of the café, where the coffee sales happen.

ATMOSPHERE

Subculture is a hipster spot where downtown denizens hang out to work or take a break. The set-up is casual. You order at the counter, then wait a few minutes for your food. There are tables inside and a few spots to sit 509 Clematis St., West Palm Beach, 561-318-5142 Sun.-Thurs., 7 a.m.-midnight; F-Sat., 7 a.m.-2 a.m. outside.

OUR FAVORITE FOOD/PRICE

The lotus bowl ($8.95) — a salad with fresh greens and quinoa, avocado, chickpeas and other toppings — was a winner. We also liked the acai bowl ($8.95) and the smoothies ($5.95 each).

REASON TO GO

Quick, healthy food.

SERVICE

Friendly and reasonably quick. Our salads, smoothies and acai bowl required some prep time, so it wasn’t fast food.

NOISE LEVEL

Moderate. Business was bustling during our lunchtime visit, but the dining room was mostly quiet.

KID FRIENDLY

That depends on what your kids like, but there are plenty of choices and reasonable prices, so Subculture should work for most families.
