What does the Spady Cul­tural Her­itage Mu­seum do?

The Spady Cul­tural Her­itage Mu­seum is the only mu­seum in Palm Beach County ded­i­cated to shar­ing the African, Haitian-Amer­i­can and Caribbean-Amer­i­can cul­tural con­tri­bu­tions to Florida and the U.S. How d o e s your agency ben­e­fit the com­mu­nity?

The Spady Mu­seum pro­vides a com­mu­nity re­source for his­tor­i­cal artis­tic and cul­tural ed­u­ca­tion, gallery space for spe­cially cu­rated ex­hibits, and op­por­tu­ni­ties for res­i­dents and tourists to learn about the African-Amer­i­can, Caribbean-Amer­i­can and Haitian-Amer­i­can ex­pe­ri­ences in South Florida. Through pro­grams, ex­hibits and events, the mu­seum of­fers a full sched­ule for cul­ture, art and his­tory lovers to ap­pre­ci­ate the di­ver­sity that cre­ated the re­gion that sur­rounds them. What is your agency’s fo­cus for the fu­ture?

The Spady Mu­seum is fo­cus­ing on of­fer­ing in­ti­mate op­por­tu­ni­ties for vis­i­tors and mem­bers to ex­pe­ri­ence cul­tural di­ver­sity by grow­ing sig­na­ture pro­grams such as its Ride and Re­mem­ber Bus Tour, which runs from 10 a.m. to noon on the sec­ond Satur­day of each month for $35 per per­son. Il­lus­trated with col­or­ful sto­ries of the per­son­al­i­ties and hap­pen­ings that in­flu­enced the growth of Del­ray Beach, the tour does more than re­lay facts – it draws the rid­ers back in time. Climb aboard and en­joy the city’s in­ter­est­ing ori­gin and de­vel­op­ment.

The Black Movie Ex­pe­ri­ence (BMX) runs from 1 to 4 p.m. on the first Satur­day of each month for a $10 per per­son do­na­tion (mem­bers are free) at the Spady’s Wil­liams Cot­tage, ad­ja­cent to the mu­seum. En­joy cul­tur­ally cu­rated films, along with free snacks for mu­seum mem­bers. Ev­ery month, a film that show­cases the black ex­pe­ri­ence is fea­tured, fol­lowed by a lively dis­cus­sion on its mean­ing and im­pact. How can the com­mu­nity help?

Chil­dren learn how to grow plants and veg­eta­bles and live off the land like the set­tlers of Del­ray Beach at the Spady Youth Em­pow­er­ment Cul­tural Camp, a six-week in­ten­sive pro­gram from June through Au­gust at the Spady Cul­tural Her­itage Mu­seum.
