Q: Who is the actor who does the Allstate commercials? He has a beautiful voice. — Ward Erickson, Wheeling, W.Va.
A: For a number of years now, that job has belonged to Dennis Haysbert, formerly of the series The Unit and 24 and such movies as Heat and Waiting to Exhale. If anything, the actor is becoming only more entrenched in that role; he recently started doing the ads in Spanish, too.
Q: What series did the new person on Burn Notice star in previously? His name is Coby Bell, and I know I have seen him, but I can’t remember where. — Dar Stein, Pueblo, Colo.
A: Bell had been a regular on several other shows before landing his USA Network gig. He spent three seasons on the CW sitcom The Game (which reportedly will be revived by BET), he co-starred throughout the six-year run of NBC’s Third Watch, and he had his first continuing television job on CBS’ short-lived L.A. Doctors. In real life, Bell is the father of two sets of twins.
Q: Is China Beach available in a boxed set from a reputable company? I have a friend who served in Vietnam and lived through the events in this show. -— Jean Doyle, Port Orange
A: This is one of the questions we receive most consistently. Rather than label any company “reputable” or not, we’ll simply say that at the time we wrote this, Warner Home Video — the company that holds the official rights to the Emmy-winning Dana Delany-Marg Helgenberger drama — didn’t seem any closer to announcing a release of the full series. Thus, our usual warning in such a case: Be cautious if considering buying any set of it that’s advertised, since the quality can be questionable.
This is just us thinking out loud, but if Delany’s new ABC series Body of Proof takes off, perhaps Warner will give more thought to getting China Beach into the hands of the many who clearly want it.
