Wexler has it wrong on Iran nuke deal
I disagree with Robert Wexler’s position in his Wednesday op-ed, “Only this deal will keep nukes from mullahs.” While there are a multitude of insufficiencies in the deal, I will deal with just one issue: inspections.
“Anytime, anywhere” inspections were a precondition of any deal, as advanced in the early days of the negotiations. Now we read about all sorts of delays and hear of certain restrictions from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Without total and complete rights to verify compliance with the agreement, all else is moot.
I believe that wishful thinkers like Wexler are operating on a false premise. They believe that Iranians are just “folk” like we are, want peace and security, and value freedom and justice. Not true.
The leaders of Iran are zealots who have a different mindset. They hate the West. They advocate “death to America and Israel.” These are not just slogans. They know they are at war with us.
The problem is that Wexler and so many like-minded do not realize it. da voted for a fair redistricting amendment that passed. Webster’s comment flies in the face of that amendment. I question whether either the House or Senate has the ability to be fair.
What needs to take place is an amendment turning the redistricting job over to a nonpartisan committee to do the work as other states have. Fair representation and voters rights and wishes seem to be a foregone conclusion in Florida. Will things ever change? I didn’t have a doctor at the time.
It seems like wanting to close Planned Parenthood is “throwing the baby out with the bathwater” (pun intended).
