Golson throwing after brief break

TALLAHASSEE — Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said he rested quarterback Everett Golson on Monday after he took a few hits during Saturday night’s loss to Georgia Tech.

Fisher said Golson did not throw Monday in practice, but the graduate transfer was throwing Tuesday afternoon as FSU (6-1, 4-1 ACC) prepares for Saturday’s game against Syracuse (3-4, 1-2).

“He did get hit a couple times,” Fisher said. “The worst was in the pocket. Should have been a targeting. Without a doubt. That was an obvious one. (The ACC) admitted it was.”

Pender’s return: Mario Pender is back on the practice field and working out with the run- ning backs, and Fisher said he is “getting his wind back.” The redshirt junior missed about a month after being hospitalized with a collapsed lung and then had subsequent lung surgery.

“He’s not getting contact right now, but we’re allowed to practice him,” Fisher said. “I was shocked he was able to come back as quick.”

Fisher said the timeline for Pender to return to a game is still uncertain.

Hunter available: Fisher said redshirt senior cornerback Tyler Hunter (recovering from a concussion) has been practicing with a blue, non-contact jersey and that “he should be ready to go” against Syracuse.

“We’re just letting him get back and get acclimated to practice before he gets contact,” Fisher said.
