PALM SPRINGS — Village police Tuesday released a sketch of the man they believe shot one Tacos al Carbon employee and pistol-whipped another early Monday in an attempted robbery.

The employees told village police the gunman was heavy-set and has deep-set eyes, a short neck and a large forehead. He was wearing a light blue hoodie and dark shorts with white stripes.

P o l i c e s a y t h e g u n m a n approached the two employees while they closed up the food truck next to the main restaurant on Lake Worth Road near the intersection with South Military Trail at about 1:30 a.m. Monday.

The gunman demanded money from the employees, but police say a language barrier muffled communication.

Adrana Montes, a worker who wasn’t on site during the attempted robbery, said her co-worker tried telling the man there wasn’t any money in the register. Montes said the manager emptied the register after the truck closed at midnight.

”But I don’t think the robber understood, and that’s why he got angry,” Montes said.

The gunman hit one of the employees over the head with a pistol and shot the other, police said.

The worker who was shot was hit four times, according to Montes. The employee had surgery and was in stable condition as of Tuesday afternoon. The other employee was released from the hospital.

Anyone with information about Monday’s robbery is asked to contact Palm Springs police at 561968-8243 or 561-304-4816.
