Planning to visit new park? Here’s a guide to workouts

Fans can watch Astros, Nationals take practice fields this weekend.

WEST PALM BEACH — The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches, the spring training home of the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals, opens to the public for the first time Saturday.

Gates will open at 9 a.m. and workouts for both teams should start around 9:30. The 160-acre complex, built on an old landfill, is just south of 45th Street between Haverhill Road and Military Trail.

The Astros train on the north and northeast part of the $150 million complex; the Nationals train on the south and southeast sections.

Parking will be available in two grass-covered lots. Lot B, off Haverhill Road in the northwest corner of the complex, offers an easy walk to the Astros practice fields. Lot F, with access off Military Trail in the southeast corner of the complex, is close to the Nationals fields.

Fans are encouraged to stay in areas as directed by security staff and ushers wearing yellow vests. There will be no access to the main stadium, which is still under constructi­on, but fans will be able to walk between Astros and Nationals practice areas.

Limited concession­s will be offered for sale, mainly bottled water and snacks. No hot food will be offered. Fans also c an bring their own food and drinks.

Restrooms will be located at each team’s quad field area.

Rosters for each team will be handed out to fans while supplies last.

Astros pitchers and catchers worked out for the first time Wednesday. Nationals pitchers and catchers hold their first formal workouts today. Those initial workouts have been closed to the public while constructi­on crews finish working.

But fans will be able to watch each team’s first full-squad workouts — Saturday for the Astros, Sunday for the Nationals.

Admission and parking are free for the workouts, which end Feb. 24. After that, each team plays three games on the road before returning Feb. 28 for the inaugu-
