Man arrested on drug-sale charges in Lake Worth

Police: Marijuana, heroin, cocaine found in man’s car.

LAKE WORTH — A Del ray Beach man faces multiple charges after his arrest Sunday night for allegedly selling heroin and other drugs in a high-crime section of Lake Worth.

Deputies arrested Shankar P. Maragh, 29, after finding his car parked in the 900 block of South G Street, near Ninth Avenue South and just west of the FEC Railway tracks. The area is known for drug and gang activity, the Palm Beach County Sheriff ’s Office said in a report made public Tuesday.

Maragh was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail early Monday on charges that included possession with intent to sell heroin, c o c a i n e , mar i j u a n a a n d hydrocodon­e. He remained in custody Wednesday in lieu of $160,000 bail.

The arrest came after a deputy patrolling the 1100 block of Ninth Avenue South passed an illegally parked Toyota Camry, the sheriff ’s office said. Its seats were reclined, a n d t h e engine was n o t r u n - ning.

The deputy approached the vehicle and noticed the smell of marijuana as a man later identified as Maragh partially rolled down the window, the report said.

A second man was seated in the passenger seat. The deputy asked Maragh and the passenger to step out of the vehicle.

The deputy’s inspection revealed a large bag containing marijuana, a plastic bag containing heroin and seven small bags filled with cocaine, the sheriff ’s office said. A silver Smith & Wesson .38 revolver allegedly was also found in Maragh’s possession.

According to the arrest report, text messages on his cellphone revealed that he was selling heroin. Maragh declined to answer deputies’ questions without his attorney present.

The report did not indicate whether Maragh’s passenger will also face charges.
