Miami going for sweep of Duke

Junior left-hander Jeb Bargfeldt scattered six hits over five shutout innings and Miami’s offense picked up where it left off Saturday night as the host Hurricanes clinched a crucial Atlantic Coast Conference series with a 7-0 victory over Duke Sunday afternoon.

The Hurricanes (15-16, 7-7), who scored five runs in the ninth inning Saturday to walk off with a win, scored four in the first Sunday to jump out to an early lead against the Blue Devils (16-17, 5-9).

Miami goes for its first sweep of the season tonight at 7 in game on ESPNU.

“We’ve won three games in a row, and we’re 3-0 in the second half (of the season). That’s what I’m talking about to our team,” UM coach Jim Morris said.

Junior Carl Chester connected on a three-run home run in the first inning off Duke starter Adam Laskey.

Florida 5, Tennessee 4: Florida jumped on Tennessee early Sunday to salvage the finale of the three-game series in Gainesvill­e.

The Gators (21-11, 6-6 SEC) have played six straight onerun games, including all three against Tennessee (1712, 3-9 this weekend. Despite losing the first two games of the series to the Vols, the Gators are 4-2 in that span and are 11-7 in one-run games on the season.

The Gators jumped out to a 5-0 lead through four innings Sunday and the pitching staff held on late as Michael Byrne pitched two scoreless innings to pick up his fifth save of the season. Florida starter Jackson Kowar improved to 5-0 on the season, allowing three runs on five hits in six innings. Garrett Milchin did not allow a run in 1.1 innings and Byrne retired six of seven batters to close the game.

North Carolina State 8, Florida State 4: Freshman Drew Mendoza hit his first career home run, but the Wolfpack defeated No. 22 FSU in Tallahasse­e.

N.C. State (18-15, 7-8 ACC) scored five runs with two outs and racked up 13 hits against Florida State (21-13, 7-8) to win the series.

Drew Parrish (3-2) allowed seven runs and eight hits in 3⅓ innings in taking the loss. Mendoza’s home run in the fourth was a blast that hit halfway up the scoreboard in right center field, 380 feet from home, and trimmed N.C. State’s lead to 5-2. The freshman had three extrabase hits and six RBIs on the weekend.
